    What you'll see and do

    1. Andrew Molera State Park

We meet across from the entrance to the State Park and get a briefing on how the eBikes operate before heading up the old dirt wagon road that the pioneers used before Hwy 1 was built. We ride along this road, through the State Park and stop at sweeping vistas of the Park and the Pacific Ocean.

      Pass by without stopping

    2. Old Coast Road

We ride about 5 miles along the Old Coast Road, from Andrew Molera State Park into the Little Sur River Valley before turning around and riding back. The ride is full of sweeping vistas. It can be dry and dusty or muddy depending on the season. Make sure you're ready for a ride with some loose dirt and gravel on some long hills.

      Pass by without stopping

    3. Andrew Molera State Park

Our first stop is a scenic overlook where we see the Big Sur River join the Ocean at this "smugglers beach." It's a beautiful view and has some fun history.

      Pass by without stopping

    4. Big Sur

As we climb the hill you'll look out over the Big Sur Valley and see where the river meanders to the sea.

      Pass by without stopping

    5. Over half of our ride is bordered on both sides of the Old Coast Road by the massive, 7,100 acre, El Sur Ranch. A working cattle ranch since 1834, this is one of the few original Mexican land grants still intact. Depending on the time of year, there may be cattle from the ranch grazing along side the road. There are always cattle in the pastures along the ocean. One of the most beautiful cattle ranches you'll ever see.

      120 minutes here

    6. After our first big hill climb, we descend into the Little Sur River Valley, part of the San Andreas Fault system. The river winds through a beautiful redwood forest. The towering trees, cliffs of ferns, and the sound of the river babbling below make us feel like part of a prehistoric landscape.

      Pass by without stopping

    7. This white marble peak follows us through our ride. A sacred mountain to the Esselen tribes, this mountain provides a stunning focal point throughout our ride.

      Pass by without stopping

    8. Point Sur State Historic Park

As our tour gains altitude we gaze out past the Point Sur Light Station in the distance. Learn about the fun history that brought this lighthouse to us.

Tour guide no show, still no refund!

    1) The Big Sur E-bike tour for my wife and I, scheduled for Sunday at 10 am using Viator app. 2) I received confirmations via email, text and the viator app including detailed instructions of when and where to meet, and a caution of no cell service at the meet up location. 3) We arrived at the location 30 minutes early, paid $10 for parking, and waited until 10:30. NOBODY! Over 300 miles from home, no cell service. 4) Awful experience, still no progress on refund.

    Off road experience

This was a great experience and it felt more personalized because there was only 6 of us. Noah was great and made sure we got the full experience. I would say this is not for meek. I mean I’m not super athletic and I’m 59 so it’s not that hard. Going down hill is really the most challenging but Noah will make sure you are safe. My bum hurts this morning from the pounding on the rough road down but my son of course loved it. There is quick small hike thru the forrest that is scenic. Again just make sure you can navigate some steep narrow paths. We walked to little Sur river which was beautiful. Definitely the experience we were looking for. Not your cookie cutter ride.

    Condor Seekers

Jon was an excellent guide. John asked if there were any condors around. A bit up the trail Jon spotted one and we watched in awe as the great bird flew overhead. He told us about the surrounding ranch that had been there since 1824(?) and Ann asked if there were any cattle. A bit further up the trail, we saw a very big bull with a 407 tag in it's ear, laying by the fence under a shady next to the trail. Jon kept a good rhythm for us as we went up and down steep hills. Loved the redwood trees and views of the ocean and clouds It was a special day, the wind was was blowing and waves were crashing. Jon took us on a short hike down Little Sur Creek, which was a bonus for us. Thank you Jon for guiding us on this bike tour.

Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Monterey & Carmel.

How much does Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road cost?

    +

Prices start at $175 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Monterey & Carmel usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Monterey & Carmel is not rushed.

Is Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Monterey & Carmel, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Monterey & Carmel can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Monterey & Carmel and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Big Sur Electric Bike Tour Along Old Coast Road start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Monterey & Carmel within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Monterey & Carmel?

    +

Monterey Bay is one of the best whale watching stretches in the world, alongside kayak tours over the kelp forest, 17-Mile Drive and Big Sur coastal runs, and Carmel wine walks. Boat size and naturalist quality decide the whale trips, and we score them accordingly. On Outty we rank every Monterey & Carmel experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monterey's 17 Mile Drive Guided Electric Bike Tour, 3 hr, Whale Watching Tour From Monterey, Elkhorn Slough Wildlife Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Monterey & Carmel?

    +

April to November for whales and calm seas. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Monterey & Carmel?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
