a deeply meaningful dinner

It was a deeply meaningful dinner. Our guide, Eunhee was cheerful, kind, and spoke very openly about North Korea and the circumstances surrounding defectors. Since there is so little information about the everyday lives of ordinary people in North Korea, this was a truly valuable experience. Through her stories, I was able to vividly imagine those scenes. As a Japanese person, I think I have a responsibility to learn about inter-Korean issues and her experiences, which is why I joined this tour. I sincerely hope that many people will have the chance to hear her story. She is around the same age as me, but she has been through so much and is carving out her own life—I was genuinely inspired. Not only did I learn about North Korea, but I also gained insight into how to take charge of one’s own life. And of course, the North Korean food, like naengmyeon, was absolutely delicious!

Highlight of our time in Seoul

My girls and I had the best time visiting Seoul but this experience was our highlight and what I looked forward to the most. We probably could have spent hours chatting. We learned so much and have a new appreciation for those who bravely attempt to defect. I highly recommend!!

Great Dinner, Better Conversation!

We really enjoyed our dinner with Eunhee! We went after returning from our day at the DMZ, and our conversation very much added to everything we'd learned earlier in the day. Eunhee was able to talk first-hand about her harrowing journey and comment on the many cultural differences, as well as the good and bad of being a defector living in South Korea. It was truly a unique experience, made all the better by how pleasant and kind Eunhee is. Would definitely recommend!

Fantastic experience!

Wow! What an experience! Eunhee, was extremely friendly and lovely to chat to. It was very interesting to listen to her awe inspiring story and to learn about her life since leaving North Korea, plus the North Korean dishes were great! If you are thinking of booking this experience, stop thinking and go ahead and book it!

Response from the operator: I am thrilled that you found it inspiring and I am honored to have shared this journey with you and your wife. I can't wait to welcome you and Lisa back for more North Korean delights and captivating conversations😊

You MUST book this unmissable experience whether or not you visit the DMZ!

Meeting Eunhee was unexpectedly one of the best parts of our trip to Seoul. It was incredible just to sit with her and ask her questions about her life and experiences, and she was so patient and answered all of them! I would absolutely book this tour again just to be able to ask her more questions. Eunhee needs to make a movie about her life!

Response from the operator: Your heartfelt words mean the world to me. I am so grateful for your appreciation of my experiences. Thank you for choosing my service, and I hope to welcome you back for more unforgettable moments:)

Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Seoul.

How much does Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book cost?

+

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Seoul usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book take?

+

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Seoul is not rushed.

Is Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Seoul, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book?

+

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Seoul can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Seoul and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Beyond the DMZ: Meet North Korean Defector & Signed Book start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Seoul within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Seoul?

+

On Outty we rank every Seoul experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include DMZ Tour: Defector Q&A, Tunnel & Suspension Bridge /Hotel pick up, Best DMZ Tour Seoul: Defector Q&A, 3rd Tunnel & Suspension Bridge, 2026 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best: DMZ Tour from Seoul. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Seoul?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Seoul?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
