    Avoid at all costs

Dreadful experience. Driver, Dino, was arrogant and rude. We had been advised to arrive at the meeting point and were early. Driver said 'about time' and when i commented that we were early, his response was -well I arrived early too. Vehicle a 40 year old Defender. Rear windows didn't work. Front passenger seat belt very difficult to use. Two of the group had to sit in the seats at the back of the vehicle, which was horrible and uncomfortable. Driver also made no attempt to secure seatbelts at the rear, if there were any. The car was probably sound enough, but perhaps not for long as the differential noise suggests a lack of oil and too late to add now. Dino is a technically competent driver, but not a good one. He drove with no consideration for the passengers, his aim being to show off his supposed prowess. At the first stop, when the rear passengers were unhappy, he was very aggressive, waving the keys and saying 'do you want to drive'. The skywalk is a joke - not the company's fault, but they shouldn't over sell it as they do. View average and looking down through dirty glass at some vegetation. The wine visit/tasting was below average. Overall, we would advise anyone against paying for this waste of a full afternoon.

Go where the group takes you!

Fun and informative tour of the island with a great group of people - nothing too much trouble for our guide and his pal in the next car. We added to the excursion with a taste of authentic poncho - best we’d had. Plenty of wine at the vineyard as well 😉

    SCAM!!

Watch out! It’s sold as a wine and tasting tour, but actually you just pay for the driver. You will need to pay extra for the wine and tasting tour.

Response from the operator: The listing explicitly states: "Winery guided visit and 6 table wine fees, Quinta Do Barbusano €24.00 per person." We wish to reassure you that there is no scam involved and that the information regarding the wine tasting fee was clearly displayed on the booking site at the time of your reservation.

More off road tour than a wine tasting tour.

Disappointing overall. Advertised as a wine tasting tour. Driver was friendly and knowledgeable. The off-roading was fun but after being in the old Jeep for over 2.5 hours it gets a bit boring. Content of the tour could do with improvements overall. The winery was mediocre, none of the 6 wines offered for tasting were recommended & that was the opinion of quite a large group that were there that day. The wine tour was less than an hour in total. Cost was €55 per person & €18 extra for the wine tasting & €5 extra for the glass floor cliff viewing.

Response from the operator: As mentioned on Viator, the wine tasting €24.00 and Cabo Girão €5.00 is optional, and the associated cost is clearly stated. Guests are not obligated to participate in the tasting. Furthermore, feedback regarding the wine tasting should be directed to the winery itself, as Quinta do Barbusano is not owned by us; we only provide jeep tours. Thank you for your understanding

Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.

How much does Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure cost?

    +

Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.

Is Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 28 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure?

    +

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Bestselling Wine Tour, Tasting Experience & Skywalk 4x4 Adventure start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Funchal?

    +

On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Funchal?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Funchal?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
