A day well spent
Petropolis is a 1-2 hour drive from Rio, but the drive itself is part of the attraction. It ranges from city highways to scenic curvy mountain roads. Either way, the drive offers a chance both to view the landscapes outside of Rio and to get acquainted with your tour guide (for us, it was Fabio). Time well spent! Petropolis itself is also worth your time, especially if you have a guide as knowledgeable and personable as Fabio. We recommend him.

Amazing trip to Petropolis
This was an amazing tour. Fabio had so much knowledge and was willing to share so many interesting facts and in a clear manner that was easy to understand and follow. The drive is about 1.5 hours to get to Petropolis (less to come back due to how the roads are laid out) and Fabio was a great, safe driver - which is wonderful for Brazil driving. He also shared about things we passed on the drive. He is so knowledgeable about the sites and history of Brazil. His joy in sharing this information was also evident. So many great sites in Petropolis to see and experience. We loved this day trip. And we got back just after 3pm, so had lots of time for other things in the afternoon and evening (for us this was heading home.)

A Great Rio Day Trip
My family and I had a wonderful day with Fabio in our visit to petropolis. Fabio arrived promptly and had no problem waiting for our teenagers to arrive. We had an easy (80 minute) drive to petropolis and spent several hours in this historic town. We had ample time at the highlights (primarily the imperial museum) and a lovely lunch. If you are interested in Brazilian history/Pedro II, this is a terrific day trip from Rio.
Response from the operator: Thanks a lot Greg. Best regards, Fabio

Good tour of Petropolis
Fabio picked us up promptly at our hotel and safely drove us out to Petropolis. He gave a lot of information and history as he walked us through the Imperial Museum since there is no English translation there. This is the second tour we've taken with Fabio (the first one was Private City Tour Christ and Sugarloaf), and he is always professional and courteous. At the end of the tour, he dropped us off at the airport at our request. We would recommend this tour and Fabio as your tour guide.
Response from the operator: Thanks a lot Mae for the two amazing tours that we had in Rio de Janeiro. I hope to see you again soon. Big hugs

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rio de Janeiro.
How much does Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum cost?
+
Prices start at $88 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rio de Janeiro usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rio de Janeiro is not rushed.
Is Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Rio de Janeiro, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 7-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rio de Janeiro can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rio de Janeiro and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Best Private Tour of Petropolis with Imperial Museum start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rio de Janeiro within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rio de Janeiro?
+
On Outty we rank every Rio de Janeiro experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rio's Full Day: Selarón Steps, Christ & Sugarloaf – Tickets & Lunch Included, Rio: Tijuca Rainforest Hike, Wildlife, Waterfalls & Caves, Explore the Best of Tijuca Forest – Hike to Peaks, Caves & Falls. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rio de Janeiro?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rio de Janeiro?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
