Highly recommend this all inclusive Datong tour!
This was by far the best all inclusive tour we’ve done. From start to finish everything was perfectly organised and ran smoothly. They arranged our return bullet train tickets from Beijing and handled hotel pickup and drop off without any hassle. James was waiting for us at Datong station and turned out to be an outstanding guide. He was knowledgeable, thorough with the history and explanations at the Yungang caves and the temples, and genuinely looked after us the entire day. The lunch was soooo good! the best local food we tried in Datong. There are so many photos I can share but you just have to book and check it out! The whole experience exceeded our expectations. If you’re planning a tour in Datong, do this one and request James. Highly recommended!

Go! It's a great day-trip and Cathy and team will take care of you!
If you're thinking about doing a day trip to Datong from Beijing (or anywhere else, for that matter), my recommendation is that you should do it. And you cannot go wrong with Cathy. Everything was great - communication, drivers, tour guide in Datong, etc. The day trip from Beijing was easy to book, and Cathy was so communicative throughout -- from the moment the trip was confirmed, she and I were in touch. The day trip was smooth. An easy and on-time pickup from my hotel (including a great "to-go" breakfast provided by Cathy and team for the train ride to Datong -- such a sweet touch!) Clear and quick pick-up at Datong. It was very easy to find Molly, my tour guide. We got straight into a van that was with us for the day. Molly is knowledgeable, helpful, and took care of everything. The visit to the Grotto is fascinating, with much to see! Then onto a delicious Datong lunch, and an afternoon visit to Huayan Temple. A smooth drop-off to the train platform in Datong, and then an easy train trip back to Beijing. Cathy and Molly have a driver for the day in Datong. This makes getting between the different spots easy and comfortable. Truly a perfect day trip from Beijing. Thank you, Cathy and Molly. It was a great day! Thank you for taking care of all the details.

Great experience
I had an excellent experience today. Our guide Molly was knowledgeable, friendly, and very well organized. She made sure everything ran smoothly, explained the history and culture in an engaging way, and was always attentive to our needs. I also want to recognize the outstanding work of Cathy who organized the tour. Everything was perfectly planned, making the day stress-free and enjoyable from start to finish. A special thank you to our drivers as well. They were professional, punctual, courteous, and made us feel safe throughout the entire trip. Thank you all for providing such exceptional service. I highly recommend this team to anyone visiting Beijing!

Amazing sites
Tour service was great from start to finish. They pick you up at your hotel (and even bring you breakfast), train tickets are pre-booked, the guide and driver meet you at Datong to take you to the sites, and they provide lunch at a delicious restaurant. Molly our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the grottoes and hanging temple. The only issue was we weren’t able to get everyone tickets to walk up to the hanging temple, but the agency was very communicative and responsive and tried their best to resolve the issue (tickets are very limited so you should make sure you have them when you book the tour).

The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.
How much does Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train) cost?
+
Prices start at $200 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train) take?
+
Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.
Is Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 48 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train) suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train)?
+
Around 17 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Beijing to Datong See YunGang Cave, Hanging Temple (Bullet Train) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Beijing?
+
On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Beijing?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Beijing?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
