It is the most celebrated Buddhist temple in Beijing and one of the largest and most influential temples in China, it became a lamasery in 1744 and is home to stunning Buddha sculptures, including one sculpture carved from a single piece of sandalwood that stands 18 meters above ground.

Afterward to White Cloud Temple, it is one of "The Three Great Ancestral Courts" of the Quanzhen School of Daoism, and is titled "The First Temple under Heaven”, first founded in the mid-8th century during the Tang dynasty and the existing one was rebuilt for the Ming and Qing Dynasties Every year on the 19th day of the first lunar month a festival is held at the abbey in celebration of Qiu Chuji's birthday. It was thought that Qiu would return to earth as an immortal on this day

A wealth of history and stories.
Our guide, Stephen, was just awesome! My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed his explanations of the sites that we visited. We quickly discovered that he knows a wealth of Chinese fables and folklore, which we enjoyed even more! Lunch was delicious. Stephen got an idea of the sorts of flavors we enjoyed. We had a selection of favorites and also two new dishes to explore. Our driver was professional and prompt. We felt safe in the busy Beijing traffic. Seatbelts were readily available, which is not always the case in China. The car was very clean and comfortable. We would absolutely book again if we had the opportunity.
