Banteay Srei is unique for its highly intricate, 3D carvings in a soft, pinkish sandstone, its relatively miniature size compared to other Angkor temples, and the fact that it was not commissioned by a king, but by a Brahman courtier. It is often called the "jewel of Khmer art" or the "Citadel of the Women" due to the delicate and detailed craftsmanship. Kulen Mountain's uniqueness stems from its role as the birthplace of the Khmer Empire, its spiritual significance, and its combination of natural and archaeological wonders. It's the sacred site where King Jayavarman II declared independence in 802 AD, and it features waterfalls, ancient temple ruins, and the River of a Thousand Lingas. Beng Mealea is its status as an "Indiana Jones" style "lost temple," . Beng Mealea is unique for its "Jungle Temple" appearance, with a layout similar to Angkor Wat but overgrown by the jungle, making it a more untamed and mysterious experience.

The most beautiful, pink sandstone temple with detailed caving. Its 35 kilometers away from grand tour site. Because of its delicate carvings Banteay Srei is also known as “Lady Temple”. Phnom Kulen National Park
KULEN MOUNTAIN is almost an hour a half away by car. Kulen mountain is 65kms away from city. You can swim at the waterfall (ask your hotel if you can borrow a towel) if you want to swim. Kulen is a famous attraction, popular with locals as well as visitors. A Trekking Tour is possible. The mountain has a few temples which were built in 802 AD, before the Angkor era, which you will see. his temple is quite different to other temple sites. It has not been repaired and you can see how it looked when discovered. See how the jungle took over, causing the temple to collapse. Wander around the ruins, find a quiet place to contemplate the history. Many photo opportunities for you. This temple is in the remote in the countryside and many tress grow on the stones as the second tomb raider at Ta Promh temple also.

Kulen with Mr. K
The Kulen mountains and Boeng Mealea are not on the typical trip to Siem Reap but I highly recommend taking the time to visit these places. We were a team of volunteers from the National Museum of Bangkok visiting Khmer sites and we had an excellent visit with Mr. K and his team.

Amazing day
We saw Kulen Mountain and the waterfall, Linda's and temple with Kosorl and it was an amazing day. You couldn't be in better hands than with Kosorl. We were traveling with are two kids and they really enjoyed it, especially swimming at the waterfall. We spent about 2 months in SE Asia and one of the best meals we had was the little place Kosorl took us, fish and the chicken were the best. Overall it was an amazing day and highly recommend it
