What you'll see and do

  1. Banteay Chhmar Temple

Banteay Chhmar was one of the most extensive architectural undertakings Jayavarman VII built in a politically sensitive region in the final years of his reign. The architecture shows signs of haste in its construction, as do his other temples, and it appears to have been left unfinished. There are clear indications that new architectural forms were still being developed at the site in the course of building. The iconography expresses both Buddhist and Hinduist beliefs, as well as the supremacy of the king, themes that are also represented in his other temples. However the representations of individual deities and their juxtapositions are in many cases unique to Banteay Chhmar.

  2. Banteay Toap Temple is a fascinating and interesting temple site. The name is thought to mean ‘Fortress of the Army’ and it was built during the same period as the Banteay Chhmar temple complex. It is believed to have been built as a tribute to the Khmer army for their defeat of the Cham army leading to Khmer control of the region.

  3. Artisans Silk Farm

All stages of the production process can be seen here, from the cultivation of mulberry trees to the nurturing of silkworms to the dyeing and weaving of silk.

  4. West Baray

A giant reservoir constructed during the Khmer Empire, measuring 8km long by 2.1km wide. Its purpose at the time it was constructed is still not clear, and the original hypothesis, that it was used for irrigation, no longer holds much water.

  5. The Svay Romiet Pagoda is located directly on the banks of the West Baray. They always go to the pagoda on their ancestor's anniversary or someone's birthday. This is the way to showing high respect even on days that are not the Pchum Ben festival. The festival educates younger people on how they should give respect to their relatives.

We have seen some...

We have seen some amazing, beautiful historical sights and got to visit them without being accompanied by plenty of tourists. Those temples are amazing wonder, even hundreds years later. But the highlight of the day was our guide - he spoke excellent English and answered all of our questions - related and unrelated to the tour directly. Defo best, most professional guide we had in 4 months of travelling. I recommended the tour for everyone who want to learn about Cambodian history and culture, a little beyond Angkor Wat.

Response from the operator: Dear Paulina Warm greetings from About Cambodia Travel & Tours and thank you for sharing your wonderful review. We are truly delighted to know that you had an enjoyable experience exploring Cambodia with us. It was a great privilege to assist you during your journey, and your kind feedback is sincerely appreciated by our entire team. Our goal is always to provide personalized service and memorable travel experiences, and it is very rewarding to hear that we were able to contribute positively to your trip. Thank you once again for your trust and support. We look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back to Cambodia in the future, and hopefully assisting you, your family, and your friends on another memorable journey. Wishing you continued safe and happy travels. Warm regards Guest Relations Manager About Cambodia Travel & Tours

A must watch temple, even if far away

A wonderful discovery of a temple seldom visited, but very beautiful since it is of the same style as the Bayon in Angkor. The guide was very good at explaining the sculptures on the walls, and globally had very good knowledge of Cambodia history. The driver was very good too (I felt safe during the whole tour). The discovery of the western reservoir was a nice surprise.

Banteay Chhmar With Leap and La - 5 stars

My wife and I did this tour and loved it. Our tour guide Leap was friendly and knowledgeable (and a goog photographer). The tour was fun and insightful - we learned a lot and got to see more remote temples. Our driver La was polite, made good time, and drove smoothly. 5 stars.

Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Siem Reap.

How much does Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap cost?

+

Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Siem Reap usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Siem Reap is not rushed.

Is Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Banteay Chhmar Temple & Silk Farm Private Day Trip from Siem Reap start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?

+

On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Siem Reap?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
