1. Miradouro do Pisao

   From this viewpoint you get the greatest view over the fahan of Caloura, and you can also enjoy a view over the island of Vila Franca do Campo. It has a parking lot and access ramp for people with reduced mobility.

2. Vila Franca do Rosario

   The municipality of Vila Franca do Campo dates from the 15th century and is the oldest on the island of São Miguel, with 1476 the most likely date of its creation, according to documentary testimonies that have reached us. The letter of foral of the municipality is not known but it is known that Rui Gonçalves da Câmara, the first donatarian captain of the island of São Miguel here fixed residence and lived 21 years until 1497, as indicated in his will, dated 21 November 1497, drafted in Vila Franca do Campo, when he was stabbed in his home, from which he died. Vila Franca was the first capital of the island and the seat of its only county for many years. Here lived the Donatarian Captains who ruled the island. The sugarcane culture was initially his main source of wealth.

3. Nossa Senhora da Paz

   The Hermitage of Our Lady of Peace is a chapel of great importance and beauty on the island of São Miguel. It was built in 1764 and is the clear protagonist of the rich architectural heritage of the town of Vila Franca do Campo, making it an indispensable visit to São Miguel. ​​ The chapel is of great importance on the island and in 1991 it was classified as Property of Public Interest. In addition, according to legend, the Hermitage of Our Lady of Peace was built there because it was there where a pastor found an image of the Virgin Mary. Whatever it is, and legends apart, the peculiar architecture of this religious space deserves an obligatory visit.

4. Lagoa das Furnas

   Lagoa das Furnas is a must-see place on the island of São Miguel. In fact, the entire area of the Furnas is one of the main attractions of the island, being the Lagoa das Furnas one of the protagonists of the region. ​​ This lagoon arouses great interest from a vulcanological and thermal point of view, besides, of course, the landscape. The Furnas Lagoon is located in an ancient crater of the Furnas volcano, surrounded by numerous volcanic manifestations: boiling water boilers, fumarolas, sulfataras, as well as a lush vegetation. The area of the furnas boilers and fumarolas on the north bank of the lagoon is the perfect place to enjoy this amazing place.

5. Parque Terra Nostra

   A must-see attraction in the heart of the island of St. Michael, in the centre of the Furnas Valley, Terra Nostra Park dates back to 1775, when the wealthy American merchant, Thomas Hickling, fell in love with the Furnas and decided to create the perfect relaxation haven that still seduces all visitors today. Apart from its large collection of camellia and other rare species, the park surrounding the Terra Nostra Garden Hotel is known worldwide for its thermal reservoir. Full of volcanic water from thermal springs at a constant temperature of 40°C, rich in iron and other highly beneficial minerals for the skin, this pool provides complete relaxation and unparalleled. 6. Furnas

   Lunch in the parish of the Furnas which are known for its thermal waters, namely the boilers, the Poça da Beija and thermal pools. Furnas are also known for the Hotel Terra Nostra consisting of a natural pool of thermal waters and a magnificent botanical garden, the Terra Nostra Park and you can also visit the natural park where you can find some animals and some plant species. It is also in the Furnas that there is a lagoon, the Lagoa das Furnas.

7. Caldeira das Furnas

   The Furnas Volcano is a large volcanic building, formed by numerous eruptions, intercalated with periods of calm, over the past 800,000 years. It has a large depression at the top, called a boiler, with 8 km per 5.6 km and encompasses an important geodiversity, highlighting the Lagoa das Furnas, several small volcanoes, fumarolic fields and a wide variety of sources of mineral and thermal waters: the “hydropole” of the Furnas. It is the land-based Azorian geosite of greatest international relevance and presents a significant scientific, pedagogical and touristic value. In this place, there are also several secular geocultural manifestations, strongly rooted in the population and currently transmitted to visitors and tourists: it is the case of the “Cozido das Furnas”, the thermal baths in pools or pools, the use of volcanic lamas in various treatments and the use of waters with different mineral-medical characteristics, including the known “acid waters”.

8. Miradouro Pico Do Ferro

   This viewpoint (567 m altitude) is served by an access branch located in ER2-1a, Parish of the Furnas, municipality of Povoação. From this viewpoint you can observe much of the Protected Landscape Area of the Furnas, highlighting the Lagoa das Furnas with its fumarolas and boilers, as well as the picturesque parish. On days of exceptional meteorological conditions you can observe the Island of Sta. Maria. It has a parking lot and access ramp for people with reduced mobility.

9. Gorreana

   There is evidence of the presence of tea in the Azores since the second half of the 18th century. However, its production only began in the 19th century, when it was necessary to look for other cultures to replace the orange culture, which was in decline. At the initiative of the Micaelense Agricultural Promotion Society and its founding partner José do Canto, tobacco, pineapple, sweet potato for alcohol production, beet for sugar and tea production began to be produced. The first tea seeds came from Brazil in the early 19th century. By 1848, tea had already been planted in the properties of several Micaelian families.

10. Miradouro de Santa Iria

    This viewpoint (221 m altitude) is located in ER1-1a, parish of Ribeirinha, county of Ribeira Grande. It has parking lot and access ramp for people with mobility difficulties, as well as toilet. From this viewpoint you can observe the beauty of the north coast, the Old Ladeira, the parishes of Porto Formoso and Maia, the plantations of Chá Gorreana and, whenever the weather allows, the Ponta do Cintrão Lighthouse and the Massif of the Seven Cities. It is possible to see the ruins of the ancient spa Ladeira Velha, where a thermal spring was used for therapeutic purposes.
