Ideal adventure with friends for my birthday
I booked a private twilight kayaking tour to Motukorea to enjoy with friends on my birthday, and it was phenomenal all around. First, the upfront communication from Auckland Sea Kayaks was fantastic and informative. They also worked to accommodate our group's dietary needs, which was appreciated. Second, our tour guide, Dan, was so knowledgeable and fun! We were all well-equipped and briefed for the adventure ahead. Dan kept us on schedule without feeling rushed, and we managed to see the start of sunset from the peak on the island and then experience the full show from the water in our kayaks. I would absolutely book another adventure with Auckland Sea Kayaks in the future!
Response from the operator: Love this. Thanks for choosing a private twilight sea kayak tour to Motukorea for your birthday celebration. We’re glad the planning, dietary arrangements and pre-trip information made everything straightforward. Dan will be pleased to hear that his guiding, local knowledge and relaxed approach helped make the experience so memorable. Watching the sunset from Motukorea before paddling back across Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour is a very special way to finish the day. Thanks for joining us, and we’d love to welcome you back for another Auckland adventure.

Wonderful Kayak Journey
We were the only two people on this kayak journey to Brown’s Island. We had a beautiful sunny day for the experience. Our guide, Kaitlyn, was experienced and passionate about kayaking. After paddling about an hour, we arrived at the island and snacked on brownies and coffee. Water was not provided (although I believe it was said to be included in the trip summary) - bring your own! After our snack we hiked to the top of the volcano and around it - we saw some great views, and Kaitlyn identified points of interest. Right after the hike we kayaked back to the put in. Kaitlyn drove us back to the museum, where she had picked us up - she kindly offered to drop us off at a different spot. (We elected to stay at the museum, however - we enjoyed many wonderful exhibits there.) My only suggestion would be for the company to state the pick-up point in the email sent the day before the trip.
Response from the operator: Thanks a lot for the lengthy feedback. Glad you enjoyed your kayaking experience with Caitlin along with the snacks and volcanic views. We do normally provide water on our tours, so we apologise it was forgotten that day. we hope you had a wonderful rest of your stay in Aotearoa, New Zealand. All the best.

Achievement unlocked!
This trip was the culmination of a two year project to visit all the Auckland volcanos and I think I saved the best for last. Ruby, our guide, was delightful and ensured our safety at all times. As a novice sea kayaker I found this very reassuring. The kayaking experience was as enjoyable as the time on the island itself.
Response from the operator: Love this review. Congrats on ticking off all the Auckland maunga. Very impressive and you should be proud. Thanks for choosing Auckland Sea Kayaks to help get you there.

I highly recommend you...
I highly recommend you try kayaking with this company. They provided excellent gear and the trip to browns island was absolutely amazing. It was the perfect amount of paddling without being completely exhausting. The hike can be steep but it’s a very short hike and it’s worth it because of the view at the summit,

Why this scores 74
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.
How much does Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $195 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Auckland usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Auckland is not rushed.
Is Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 38 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour?
+
Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Auckland Volcano - Motukorea / Browns Island Sea Kayak Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Auckland within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Auckland?
+
On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Auckland?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Auckland?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
