    Out of this world!

In March, we went on a tour to the Waitomo Caves with David, and he did everything to make the trip memorable and comfortable. On the drive over, he entertained us with interesting stories of history and science. The van was comfortable, and our tour group was composed of a few couples and solo travelers. They had water in case any of us didn't pack any for the day trip. We also stopped at a bakery that was great. For the actual caves, a different guide took us through, but the experience was simply incredible. We had a short easy hike to the caves, and we went to the glowworm cave first, which was out of this world. I especially enjoyed the boat portion and that the guide was strict about the no cell phones/lights portion, which felt so special and immersive. In the second cave, we learned about moas and wetas, which are very interesting. On the way back, David took us to the Fat Kiwi, which was a delicious lunch spot. We sat at a big table, and our group had a great time getting to know each other. As a driver and tour guide, David made us feel safe and well cared for during the tour. I would highly recommend visiting such an incredible spot with this tour company!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review! We're delighted to hear you had such a memorable day at Waitomo. It sounds like David made the journey just as enjoyable as the destination with his stories, local knowledge, and genuine care for everyone on board. We're also glad you enjoyed the bakery stop, lunch at The Fat Kiwi, and getting to know your fellow travellers along the way. The glowworm caves really are a magical experience, and we're so pleased it lived up to your expectations. We'll be sure to pass your lovely feedback on to David—it will mean a lot to him. Thanks again for choosing to travel with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another New Zealand adventure someday.

    Mesmerising! Fantastic guides

This tour was absolutely fantastic! Aaron and Shane were our 2 guides for the day and they were both brilliant! They were so friendly and knowledgeable and shared so much interesting information with the group. The journey to Waitomo and back from Auckland was long, but certainly not boring. There were comfort breaks along the way and Aaron pointed out lots of landmarks. The other guests on the tour were also great to chat to. The caves themselves were spectacular! The glowworms absolutely covered the ceiling and walls of the cave. It was like being in Avatar world. The short boat ride was mesmerising and Shane was more than happy to take and share photos. I loved that there was a section where photography was not allowed, as this really made the group fully immerse themselves and appreciate the nature and the amazing surroundings. The second cave was also super interesting with some incredible formations. Overall a fantastic day out. I recommend the tour to anyone who doesn't have a car and is based in Auckland, who wants to experience something truly beautiful and unique

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear you had a fantastic day with Aaron and Shane—they’ll be so pleased to know their friendliness, knowledge, and passion made such a positive impact. It’s great to hear the journey felt engaging, with plenty to see and good company along the way. We always aim to make the travel part just as enjoyable as the destination. The Waitomo caves truly are unforgettable, and your description captures the magic perfectly. That “Avatar-like” glowworm display is something special, and we’re glad you enjoyed the balance of capturing memories while also having time to fully immerse yourself in the experience. The second cave’s formations really do add another layer of wonder. Thanks again for your kind words and recommendation—it genuinely means a lot. We’d love to welcome you back for another adventure in the future!

Magical experience at glowworm with expedigo

Had a magical time at the glowworm caves. Its a unique natural phenomenon and should be on every visitors itinerary. The drive from Auckland was scenic. Our tour guide Doug was both fun and informative at the same time. The limestone caves and stalactite formations were beautiful. We visited 2 caves with a break for tea and biscuits. . I would highly recommend this tour with Expedigo Tours for a wonderful experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re thrilled to hear you had such a magical experience at the glowworm caves—it really is one of those unforgettable natural wonders that stays with you long after the visit. It’s great to know you enjoyed the scenic drive from Auckland as well; that journey is such a special part of the day. We’re especially happy to hear that Doug made the experience both fun and informative—he has a wonderful way of bringing the stories of the region to life. The limestone caves and their stunning stalactite formations are truly breathtaking, so we’re glad you had the chance to fully take them in across both cave visits. Glow worms

Great tour but a 2 hr drive coming and going

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your visit to the Spellbound Glowworm Cave. You’re absolutely right that the tour includes around a 2-hour drive each way, and we understand that this can feel like a long journey. However, we’re glad you found it to be an enjoyable part of the experience. The drive takes you through some truly beautiful and diverse scenery, which many guests find adds to the overall value of the day rather than feeling like just travel time. We also place a strong emphasis on making the journey as engaging as possible. Our guides are passionate about the region and aim to bring the drive to life by sharing local history, stories, and insights along the way. Their goal is to create a relaxed and interactive atmosphere, so the time passes quickly and remains interesting from start to finish. What truly makes the experience worthwhile for many of our guests is the time spent at the Spellbound Glowworm Cave itself. With smaller group sizes, a very knowledgeable guide, and the unique opportunity to take photos inside the cave, it creates a much more personal and memorable experience that really stands out. It’s great to know you found the tour worthwhile overall, and we appreciate you highlighting both the length of the journey and the experience itself. Thank you again for joining us — we hope to welcome you back for another memorable adventure in the future!
