Self guided tour with signs would have been better

I wasn't impressed with the tour. The guide seemed to lose his train of thought a lot and kept straying into current politics. I know he was trying to draw parallels to historical events, but this made it extremely uncomfortable, and I'm not sure the points were particularly valid. It was just rambling (which he even admitted to). He just didn't seem prepared with a speech, as I would expect. The tour was a little under an hour.

Response from the operator: We are so sorry that your experience was disappointing. We do offer self-guided tours on various occasions and always of the 17-acre grounds, but we endeavor to make each of our docent-guided tours informative and well-presented. Thank you for your helpful feedback and we do hope you visit Ashland again.

    Very good history lesson.

This was a very good history lesson. The estate is beautiful, both inside and out. Many, many original objects because four generations of the Clay family lived here. There was a request not to touch anything even the wooden walls. One drawback: The entire 1 1/2 hours was standing or climbing.

Response from the operator: Thank you, JoAnn, for your review and for visiting Ashland!

    Excellent tour

Excellent tour. Annette was very knowledgeable and made us appreciate the contributions that Henry Clay made. She also covered his faults. She brought the house and that period of our history come alive. Highly recommend it. Go early to see the grounds and out buildings.

    Knowlegeable Tour leader

We enjoyed the afternoon exploring the grounds and buildings of Ashland and our guide was very knowledgeable about Henry Clay. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the fenced garden area was locked to visitors this day.

    A Must In Lexington

We took the interior tour of the house and walked around the grounds. The tour was excellent, and our guide was outstanding. A tremendous amount of history is woven into the tour. I left with a greater understanding of why he was The Great Compromiser. The furnishings are authentic, right down to the billiard balls in the game room.
