Great food, beautiful fabrics, excited and engaged staff

Wonderful experience the whole way through. I'm a chef and my girlfriend makes clothing so this was a perfect package for us. The recipes you learn aren't complicated to learn, the fun is in getting to use ingredients you cant find elsewhere. Rocoto peppers, purple corn, and Chuño are a few things we got to enjoy. The coolest part of the cooking class for me was the environment you cook in. The range is double sided, 4 burners on one side and 4 on the other. As we were taking our cooking class, the women that ran the facility were cooking the exact same dishes right alongside us for their typical restaurant business. Getting to practice and make small-scale copies of the bubbling pots of Chicha Morada and braised chicken legs across from you, and share the space of deeply skilled women was a very special feeling. The food was great too, but that's up to your ability to follow directions. The weaving class was just as engaging but I wasn't as good at is as my girlfriend. The depths of the process you get to explore was so interesting. You don't get to hold onto the same piece of wool for timeliness sake, but you get to experience truly every step along the way. Meet the alpaca (if you arrive a bit early), take some dirtied fur and learn a specific method of stretching the fibers so bits of dirt and grass fall straight through, take your fur and stretch it into thin wisps which you knot on a spool and spin into fine threads. You'll then step to the side and with your group, select natural raw ingredients to process to soak balls of fur in that bubble in the background as you continue through your class. We got to grind seaweed to pastes, pop cactus-hugging insects into vibrant red dyes, and crush stone. This all culminates in you selecting a pre-started bracelet of many different color combinations, that you finish the weaving process of and take home as a souvenir. We also got to take home the soaked fibers we selected the colors of. Wonderful experience all the way through, deeply insightful and wonderfully presented. The focus of the business on uplifting and providing opportunities to single mothers of local communities is a cherry on top, which is a story they'll be all too happy to share with you.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We are delighted that you enjoyed both the cooking and weaving experiences and that you connected with our mission of supporting local single mothers. It means a lot to us that you appreciated not only the activities, but also the people, traditions, and culture behind them. We hope to welcome you back again someday!

A unique cooking and weaving Peruvian experience with fabulous snow capped mountain views

An opportunity to meet local people in a stunning landscape. Interact with llamas and alpacas, spend time preparing and creating a delicious Peruvian lunch. Then, learn the art of cleaning the alpaca fleece, dyeing the yarn in natural colours, spinning and weaving to create your own personalised bracelet. Alot of fun set in a family home with stunning mountain views. And the very kind and attentive Peruvian family made the entire day very memorable .

Response from the operator: Dear friend, Thank you very much for your kind words and for sharing your experience with us. It makes us very happy to know that you enjoyed your day surrounded by our llamas and alpacas, learning about traditional Andean cooking and the ancestral art of weaving. Our family loves welcoming visitors from all over the world and sharing a piece of our daily life, our traditions, and the beauty of our land. We are delighted that you felt at home and that this day became such a memorable experience for you. We hope to see you again one day in the Sacred Valley to continue creating beautiful memories together. Warm greetings from our entire Andean Colors family #ExperienceAKaleidoscopeOfPeruvianCulture

How far in advance should I book Andean Cooking & Textile Weaving (Cusco Region): ANDEAN COLORS?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Full-Day Humantay Lake Trek (Meals Included), Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
