About this experience
It will be a tour of approximately 10 hours including the driving times. We'll first get to Apollonia to visit the ruins and the beautiful Monastery with the elegant archaeological museum next to it. Then we'll head to Berat. First a lunch break in the fortress and then visits of the Fortress and some of the main attractions in it. We'll head down to the lower part of the town in the end of the day to get a nice feeling of the two historical and traditional neighbourhoods around the shores of the river. Drive back to Tirana through a unusual and non touristy interesting way with many hills, plenty of agriculture activities and a lot of beautiful scenery.

Don't miss traveling with Toni!
It's my first time in Europe, and getting to see Albania with Toni was truly a pleasure. I was nervous about going solo, but I left feeling like I made a friend not only in Toni but in the people he spoke with along the way. He's knowledgable, passionate, and fun. He made me feel like a local even though I speak no Albanian, and made sure to give me the historical context for everything we saw and did. I can't recommend him enough. If I could give more stars I would! Thanks Toni for an unforgettable day!

Guided tour of Albania
We have just completed a seven-day guided tour of Albania organised by Albanian Trip. This included visits to Ohrid in North Macedonia, the old towns of Berat and Gjirokastër returning to Tirana along the Ionian and Adriatic coasts, staying in Sarandë and Vlorë. The scenery was stunning, with steep, jagged hills, and old towns built into the hill sides and the return along the coast was through attractive villages and over high passes had fantastic views. Our guide, Ervin Budo, not only spoke excellent English and had an extensive knowledge of the many fascinating historic sites we visited but was also a careful driver which was particularly reassuring given the steep and narrow roads on some of the routes through the mountains. In the towns and sites we visited we saw the influence of Greek, Roman and Ottoman building, as well as the legacy of Ali Pasha. Ervin also showed us around Tirana, with visits to Bunk Art 2 and the Block which helped explain the transition from the previous communist era. The hotels were clean and comfortable, and in several cases family run, all in great locations and most equating to a UK 3 star standard. The Mangalemi hotel in Berat deserves special mention as it was particularly well renovated, had welcoming staff and excellent food. The cost of eating out is much lower than in the UK, although top quality food comes at a slightly higher price - we had a very good traditional Albanian meal at Mullixhiu in Tirana and excellent seafood in Sarandë and Vlorë. Albanian Trip were easy to deal with from our first contact and were quick to answer any questions. Our tour was largely pre-planned, but also very flexible; Ervin was patient and very accommodating – always happy to tailor the itinerary to match our interests, including an unplanned visit to a winery. Ervin’s knowledge and local contacts certainly made our visit run very smoothly and gave us a deeper understanding of the country. We would certainly recommend a visit to Albania using Albanian Trip. A Perfect Day with an Incredible Host
This was an exceptional trip up into the hills of Apollonia to seek out Greek ruins, Byzantine churches, museums and excavations, each of which were incredibly impressive, followed by a wonderful tour of Berat and some excellent local cuisine. The amount of history, insight, food and culture that the host was able to pack into a single day far exceeded my expectations. I've since booked further trips with them, each of which has been fulfilling beyond measure. Highly recommend this tour company, and this tour in particular.

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tirana.
How much does Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat cost?
+
Prices start at $133 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tirana usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tirana is not rushed.
Is Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tirana, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tirana can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tirana and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Ancients and Ottomans - Apollonia and Berat start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tirana within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Tirana?
+
On Outty we rank every Tirana experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include From Tirana- Hiking Tour to Bovilla Lake & Gamti Mountain, From Tirana / Durres: Gamti Mountain and Bovilla lake Day Trip, Kruja castle, the old Bazaar & Sarisalltik- Departure from Tirana. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Tirana?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Tirana?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
