Step into the world of Ancient Rome and trace the legacy of one of history’s most powerful civilizations, whose influence can still be felt in architecture, engineering, language, and culture today. At the heart of this small-group tour stands the Colosseum, the enduring symbol of Roman power and spectacle. Nearly 2,000 years after its construction, its monumental structure still reveals the extraordinary ambition of the ancient Romans. Step onto the Arena Floor, where gladiators once fought before thousands of spectators. From here, admire a striking view of the amphitheater and look down into the underground chambers where gladiators, animals, and stage equipment were prepared for the games. Continue through the Roman Forum, once the beating heart of the ancient city. Among temples, triumphal arches, and public buildings, your guide will bring to life the stories of emperors, citizens, and the events that shaped Rome.

Outstanding service – exactly how a tour company should operate
After a disappointing experience with another well-known tour company, I contacted Walks Inside Rome only a short time before our trip, expecting that the experiences we really wanted would already be sold out. From my very first email and WhatsApp message, their customer service was exceptional. Giulia responded within minutes, kept me updated throughout, answered every question thoroughly, and genuinely made me feel like they wanted to help rather than simply make a sale. Initially, the morning Colosseum tour and Arena Floor access were unavailable. Rather than asking us to settle for something we didn't really want, the team continued looking for a better solution behind the scenes. Then came the email every traveller hopes for—they had managed to secure the very last remaining morning private Colosseum tour, complete with Arena Floor access, exactly what we had been hoping for all along. They also arranged our early Vatican Museums tour, giving us what I believe is the best possible itinerary for our time in Rome. Throughout the process the communication has been first class: prompt replies, clear explanations, complete transparency and a genuine willingness to go the extra mile. In a world where customer service often feels like an afterthought, Walks Inside Rome have reminded me what great service looks like. If you're visiting Rome and want a company that genuinely cares about your experience rather than simply processing another booking, I would recommend them without hesitation. A special thank you to Giulia, whose professionalism, patience and determination turned what had become a frustrating situation into one of the highlights of our holiday planning. We can't wait to experience Rome with your team.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review Michael! We are delighted to hear that Giulia and our team were able to help with such care, speed, and dedication. At Walks Inside Rome, we always do our best to find the right solution and create memorable experiences for our guests, even at short notice. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we will be happy to share them with Giulia. We can’t wait to welcome you to Rome again!

Fantastic Tour with Sarah – Highly Recommend!
We had the pleasure of touring the Colosseum and Ancient Rome with Sarah, and she was absolutely fantastic! Sarah’s passion for the sites was contagious, and her in-depth knowledge made learning about the history of Rome fun and fascinating for all of us. She did an excellent job balancing the historical facts with stories that kept our teens interested—no easy feat! We could tell she genuinely loves what she does, and that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend Sarah for anyone looking to get the most out of their visit to these incredible landmarks!
Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind words! We're so glad Sarah made your tour of the Colosseum and Ancient Rome enjoyable and engaging for the whole family. We'll be sure to share your praise with her—she’ll be thrilled!

Amazing sites, amazing tour
Seeing this is really incredible. Such an impressive site and area. The tour was fantastic, including the tour guide really making an effort to make everyone entertained including our multi-generation family and 7 year old daughter. By going in through the gladiators gate, we had a different view and perspective, and were not able to go up to the higher areas, but it was outstanding as it was. The tour that continued through the surrounding areas was equally impressive. It was really hot, and I wish we'd come better prepared with water and snacks (especially as the 7 y.o. became hot, tired, and hungry). Even with our shortcomings and the heat, the tour was really impressive to match the sites.

Well Organized, Professional and Fun!
We did two private tours with Walks Inside Rome - the Colosseum/Forum and the Vatican/Sistine Chapel and both were first rate. The guides - Domenico in the Forum and Sara at the Vatican - were polite, professional and knowledgeable and tailored a multi-lingual/multi-generational tour that satisfied everyone's ability and energy level. Both guides were also recognized by the local security professionals at each site allowing us to expedite our entrances/transit through security. We couldn't have been happier with the way each tour transpired. In addition, there was excellent communication with the WIR staff via WhatsApp - from reservation to tour completion - that walked us through reserving the appropriate tours, touching base several days prior to the tour kickoff, and being available and responsive as we connected with the guides at each site. Hands down the WIR tours were the highlight of our trip.
Response from the operator: Hello Chris! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with Walks Inside Rome! It's truly heartwarming to hear about your positive encounters with our services. It's clear from your review that Domenico and Sara were exceptional guides who went above and beyond to ensure your tours were enjoyable and tailored to the needs of your group. We really appreciate your kind words and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future for more extraordinary journeys. Warmest regards!

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED) cost?
+
Prices start at $129 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED) take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED) suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED)?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Ancient Rome Tour and Colosseum with Gladiator’s Gate (SHARED) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
