Getting to know Puerta Plata from someone who knows his city like his back hand.
Cayetano was very knowledgeable and was so much fun. He seemed to know everybody which made it really fun as well. Our driver was absolutely amazing navigating through the streets.

Great private tour — easily could have been 5 stars with a few tweaks
We had a really enjoyable private tour in the Dominican Republic and learned a lot about the country’s history, including pirate history and the influence of Spanish and English settlers. We visited a historic area with artifacts and a beautiful pink-colored street/alley that was perfect for photos. Our host was very nice, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating. We ended up being the only two people on the tour, which made it feel very personalized. He and his wife were extremely helpful, especially after a scheduling mix-up and some initial confusion meeting as cruise passengers. Communication via WhatsApp was great, and once we exited the port gate, the air-conditioned van was right outside. This is a mom-and-pop style operation, not a large tour company. Transportation was comfortable but unbranded, just a heads-up for expectations. This tour easily could have been 5 stars with more sampling, especially for the drinks (like the hot cocoa). Being able to try more flavors would have made purchasing easier. We also didn’t really care for the cigar portion and would have preferred spending more time with the hot chocolate instead — something future guests may want to mention upfront. Lunch was on our own. Overall, a great experience with a genuinely kind host and a very personal feel.

We were there where we...
We were there where we were told to be but the guide was not had to hire a taxi driver who spoke very limited English to drive us.
Response from the operator: Dear Everett, Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that this tour had a confirmed meeting point. Our guide and driver arrived at the designated meeting location at the scheduled time and remained on site for over three hours attempting to locate you. The guide was clearly identifiable and holding an Odille Services Tours sign at the meeting point. During this time, multiple phone calls were made to the contact number provided in the reservation; however, none of the calls were answered. Additionally, no messages or contact attempts were received from your side via Viator messaging or through any other available communication channel. As there was no appearance at the meeting point and no response to any contact attempts, this reservation was recorded as a no-show. Our team followed all operational procedures and remained available throughout the scheduled service time. Kind regards, Odille Services Tours

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.
How much does Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion cost?
+
Prices start at $65 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.
Is Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Amber cove & Taino bay - Puerto plata city tour - shore Excursion start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
