Half day Hiking in Sierra Norte mountains
We had an amazing time with our guide Ivan. He took us up beautiful mountain roads and guided us up gentle trails through an old growth pine forest blanketed with wild flowers. He was patient, his English was good and he showed us medicinal and edible plants as we hiked up to an observation platform with spectacular views. It was a bit chilly so the hot chocolate he made by hand hit the spot. The hike was easy to moderate. The last 800 meter climb to the top gave us a good work out. Wear layers and bring gloves as we started out in a cold cloud cover and needed them. Warmed up significantly as the day went on. Highly recommended!

Beautiful hike in the forest
I had a lovely hike, all the way to the mirador. Marianna, my guide was very kind and friendly. It was just the two of us the whole hike, and we talked a lot and admired the mushrooms together, it was a beautiful and authentic experience in which I was accompanied with an incredible person and a beautiful forest! She also made a delicious traditional Oaxaca hot chocolate at the top, which just added to the beautiful hike! We saw sooo many mushrooms and flowers, and very ancient ferns and trees!! It was peaceful and just what I needed! 100% recommendations !

Hiking in Oaxaca with Iván: Nature, Culture, and Delicious Chocolate.
I had an amazing hike! A friend recommended the tour, and I’m glad I joined. Iván, the guide, was super friendly and knew the area very well. The trail was beautiful, and the chocolate we had was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this tour! 🥾⛰️ Amazing hiking experience! Ivan, the guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the place. The tour was perfect to enjoy nature without complications. And the chocolate we tried at the end was delicious, a perfect touch to close the day. I totally recommend this tour. 🥾⛰️

Great experience!
I had an amazing day hiking in Ixtepeji with Ivan. He was really kind and a great guide, sharing interesting facts about the area along the way. We chatted the whole time and enjoyed hot chocolate at the mirador (the viewpoint at the top of the mountain). I definitely recommend him!

Is Amazing Walk through the Zapotec Mountains with Hot Chocolate worth it?
+

How far in advance should I book Amazing Walk through the Zapotec Mountains with Hot Chocolate?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?
+
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
