Rainbow mountain
These guys are amazing! We booked a private ATV tour and everything was so easy to organise. They picked us up and made the whole experience seamless and stress-free. The breakfast was amazing, and Roger, our guide, was fantastic! We had such a great experience and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Definitely worth it!

The Best Tour Company in Peru!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Rainbow Mountain Tours, and we cannot thank the team enough for taking such great care of us. A very special thank you to the owners, Eber, Roger, and Alex, for being so accommodating, professional, and genuinely caring. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was handled smoothly and that we felt well taken care of throughout our time in Peru. A huge thank you as well to Saul, our driver for two days in a row. He was incredibly kind, patient, dependable, and made our travels comfortable and stress-free. Having someone we could trust made such a difference. And thank you to Peppe as well for all of his help and kindness. Everyone we met from Rainbow Mountain Tours made us feel like we were more than just customers. We highly recommend Rainbow Mountain Tours to anyone visiting Peru. The service was excellent, the people were wonderful, and they truly went the extra mile for us. We are so grateful for everything they did and will always remember their kindness. ❤️

An unforgettable experience !
Everything was perfect from beginning to end of the adventure. Roger, our guide, picked us up from our hotel and made sure everything went smoothly all day. We left Cusco at 7:30 am and arrived just as all the other buses were leaving. We had the mountain practically to ourselves. Pure luxury! The drive to Rainbow Mountain was very comfortable, and the driver was extremely careful. The scenery is breathtaking. Along the way, our guide explained everything we saw: villages, lakes, local customs... We had lunch with a local family, fish farmers who let us taste, among other things, the trout from their ponds. Excellent, hearty, and authentic cuisine. In fact, everything at Rainbow Mountain Expeditions is local: Roger is from the area, and they support the businesses in the villages they pass through... A real bonus for us! We opted for the quad bikes, and it was both convenient and incredibly fun. The quads are very easy to drive, and you ride on a dedicated path with no pedestrians. Honestly, we think we wouldn't have been able to complete the hike without them because of the altitude. The view from the top is breathtaking. It was an unforgettable experience for my daughter and me, and we felt safe from beginning to end, guided with great care by Roger and our driver. A huge thank you for allowing us to experience this wonderful adventure!

A must see!
I was so excited to see the beautiful Rainbow Mountain but as the height is at an elevation of 17k feet, my friends and I were wise to do the hike at the end of our 10 day visit to Peru - after hiking the Salkantay trail for 5 days. Even though we were pretty much acclimated, the hike was still challenging. They were great at letting us change the pickup time from 4am to 8am. We had a couple hours drive to the start of the hike by driver Saul to about 15k feet to start the hike. Saul was a calm and great driver managing all the switchbacks for the 3 hour drive. Roger was very patient & encouraging for the 2 hour hike up. Going down was much easier of course & took about 30 minutes. It was a beautiful sunny day, with no wind until we got close to the top. The path was not rocky and what was nice was that the donkeys or horses used a different path up and down so there was little to no poop to avoid. We all had our water bladders in our backpacks, hiking poles and hats & gloves (which we took off & on as needed) & rain gear just in case. At the top we bought some cooked alpaca & mint / muni tea from a vendor. Several calm dogs and patient hawks were waiting for us to throw our leftovers. Roger was great in explaining to us the importance of the Apu & glaciers to his culture. We also talked about how they are mining some of the minerals in other rainbow mountains & his concern about that. We stopped at a beautiful peaceful place for lunch on the way home and had gourmet traditional Peruvian food. Highly recommend this tour!

Rainbow mountain experience
The altitude is a challenge depending on if you acclimate days in advance. We had a patient, friendly, and knowledgeable guide in Roger and Saul as a driver. They were prompt and enhanced the experience. When completed you have memories of spectacular sights and a sense of accomplishment. A must do if you are physically able.

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.
How much does Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo cost?
+
Prices start at $129 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo take?
+
Plan for about 13 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.
Is Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 13-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 13-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cusco?
+
On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Full-Day Humantay Lake Trek (Meals Included), Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cusco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo?
+
Included: Private transportation; Lunch; and Breakfast. Not included: Entrance fees. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
Does Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo include hotel pickup?
+
Yes, pickup is offered for every traveler from 187 listed pickup locations in and around Cusco. Be ready about 30 minutes before the start time.
What languages is Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo offered in?
+
It runs in English. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.
Will I get instant confirmation and a mobile ticket for Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo?
+
Confirmation is sent by the operator after booking, usually within 48 hours; if it is not confirmed you are not charged. Mobile tickets are accepted, so you can show the voucher on your phone.
Is Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo wheelchair or stroller accessible?
+
The operator notes: Not recommended for pregnant travelers. If accessibility is critical, contact the operator after booking to confirm arrangements for your date.
What happens to Alternative Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo if the weather is bad?
+
It generally runs rain or shine, so dress for the forecast in Cusco. Standard cancellation terms apply: free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start.
