not really amazing
The tour guide asked us whether we had put together the itinerary ourselves, even though this exact tour with the same stops is advertised on Viator. It also seemed that this was the guide's first time leading this particular tour. Overall, we spent a considerable amount of time waiting for ride-share vehicles, as this private tour is not conducted with a dedicated vehicle. The transfers between locations were often quite long because the itinerary follows some of Beijing's busiest roads, resulting in significant time spent in traffic. At the beginning of the tour, the guide spent about 30 minutes giving us a detailed introduction to the Forbidden City. However, we had already visited it the previous day and had informed him that it was not part of today's itinerary. As a result, we spent the first half hour listening to information we had already heard. Throughout the tour, the guide seemed focused on moving us from one attraction to the next as quickly as possible. This fast-paced style did not match our preferred way of travelling. After the lengthy introduction, the explanations at the actual sites were rather limited or, in some cases, nonexistent. We decided to skip the final stop of the tour. Shopping streets tend to look very similar, and we did not find this stop particularly interesting as part of a guided tour. It certainly did not require a guide simply walking ahead of us. Overall, we felt that we could have visited all of these locations independently using a ride-share app, at our own pace and with a more enjoyable experience. The tour is advertised as lasting eight hours, but we were back after only five. In fact, the durations listed in the itinerary add up to just 3 hours and 40 minutes. Considering the price, we do not feel that the overall experience provided good value for money.
