What you get
About this experience
If you like some challenge hiking experience and also want to avoid crowded tourists, this all inclusive private tour is a great fit for you. You will hike on Jiankou Great Wall, which is connected to Mutianyu Great Wall in the east, and joins the Dazhenyu Great Wall in the west. Since the mountain here is higher and steeper, this section becomes more winding and varied. 'Jiankou', is translated as 'Arrow Nock' in English, because the shape of the mountain is like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrow nock.

An Unforgettable Great Wall Experience with James
We had the privilege of visiting the Great Wall with a private guide, James, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip to China. He was incredibly kind, thoughtful, professional, and knowledgeable. Thanks to James, we experienced a quiet, authentic part of the Great Wall, away from the crowds, which allowed us to fully appreciate its beauty and history at every moment. It felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience rather than a typical tourist visit. He also took us to an excellent local restaurant for lunch, which was absolutely delicious and made the day even more special. On top of that, James is a very careful and reliable driver, so we felt safe and comfortable throughout the entire journey. If you’re looking for an unforgettable Great Wall experience with someone who genuinely cares about his guests, we couldn’t recommend him more highly. Thank you, James, for making our day so memorable! Eleonora and Alessandro

Amazing day exploring the Great Wall at Jiankou
The best tour we did in four weeks in Asia. It is amazing to see a quiet, wild part of the wall. Our guide James was wonderful with lots of knowledge to share. Everything was seamless and we were able to experience the wall how we wanted and at our own pace, away from the tourist crowds. We didnt come across anyone else on our five our hike. I highly recommend this tour to anyone thinking about it!

Great guide, safe driver, friendly + safe experience!
I had an amazing time! Our tour guide was Peter, and he was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and kept us safe. The lunch we had included was **delectable**, and the driver we had was very safe as well. The car was really nice too. All-in-all, the tour was fantastic and I highly recommend this company/tour. :) Of course, it was a beautiful day; the wall was AMAZING, so that's always a plus :)

Best way to see the great wall
Escape from the crowd and you can see renewed and wild parts of the great wall. The guide (I had Peter) navigated me safely through the challenging parts. It was never dangerous, but it requires a basic level of physical fitness. I can highly recommend the tour, would do it again!

James is a 10/10 guide!
Had a wonderful time exploring the jiankou section of the Great Wall with James. He’s a wonderful and experienced guide who knows the Wall and its history well. We felt very safe with him. The lunch after the tour was one of the best we had during our trip.

Why this scores 72
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.
How much does All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou cost?
+
Prices start at $99 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.
Is All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 72 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does All Inclusive Private Hiking Tour: Great Wall Challenge at Jiankou start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Beijing?
+
On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Beijing?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Beijing?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
