Bakheng Mountain is near Angkor Wat Temple. It is located about 1.5 kilometers northwest of Angkor Wat. It is a Hindu temple mountain dedicated to Shiva, and was built in the 9th century by King Yasovarman I. It is the oldest temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cambodia. The temple is built on a 79-meter-tall hill, and has five sandstone sanctuaries on the top level. The sanctuaries are arranged in a quincunx pattern, with one in the center and one at each corner of the level's square. The temple is also surrounded by 108 small towers, which have mostly collapsed. Phnom Bakheng is a popular spot for sunset viewing, as it offers panoramic views of the Angkor Archaeological Park. It is also a popular place to watch the sunrise, but the views are not as good as at Angkor Wat. If you are visiting the Angkor Archaeological Park, I recommend visiting Phnom Bakheng in the late afternoon to catch the sunset.

Unforgettable sunset tour with Sun
I had an incredible experience exploring Angkor Wat with Sun as my private guide. From the moment the tour began, Sun’s warmth, professionalism, and deep knowledge of the temples made the entire day unforgettable. He shared the history, symbolism, and hidden stories of each site in a way that was engaging, clear, and full of passion. Sun also knew all the best viewpoints and photo spots, and he timed the visit perfectly to avoid the biggest crowds. His pacing was thoughtful, and he always checked in to make sure I was comfortable and enjoying myself. Beyond being an excellent guide, he was simply a lovely person to spend the day with — friendly, patient, and genuinely enthusiastic about sharing the beauty of Angkor. I couldn’t recommend Sun more highly. If you want a meaningful, insightful, and truly memorable experience at Angkor Wat, he is the guide to choose.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! It was a true pleasure to guide you through Angkor Wat and share the stories and history of our temples. I’m thrilled to hear that the photo spots and timing helped make your visit special. Providing a meaningful and comfortable experience for my guests is always my top priority. I hope to welcome you back to Cambodia again in the future!

A wonderful tour
Thom was a wonderful guide, he was welcoming and friendly, spoke English very well and was very knowledgeable on his subject. We really enjoyed the tour, Thom had a very good sense of humour and we had good fun. One of our party of three had some difficulty with mobility, he adapted the tour to suit us all. Our driver we also could not praise highly enough, we were very comfortable. We would highly recommend Thom
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We are delighted that your afternoon at Angkor Wat was such a success. It’s great to hear that Thom’s knowledge and sense of humor made the history come alive for you, but we are especially proud that he was able to adapt the tour for your party's mobility needs. Ensuring every guest is comfortable and included is our top priority. We will be sure to share your high praise with both Thom and your driver—they will be thrilled! We hope the memories of that sunset stay with you for a long time.

Hot but happy
Afternoon tour was hot…midday was 95*. A lot of steps & walking/hiking for us in our 70s. Sun was informative & patient.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We truly admire your energy—tackling those temple steps in the midday heat is no small feat, especially in your 70s. We are so glad to hear that Sun’s patience and knowledge helped make the journey enjoyable despite the temperature. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to him!

We take great pride in our guides going above and beyond—like that extra exploring you mentioned—to ensure our guests have a memorable sunset at Angkor Wat. We will be sure to share your praise with Thom!

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Siem Reap.
How much does Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset cost?
+
Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Siem Reap usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Siem Reap is not rushed.
Is Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 29 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset?
+
Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Afternoon Angkor Wat Private Tour with Sunset start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?
+
On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Siem Reap?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
