You Become the Street-Food Chef: Unlike a standard cooking class where you chop veggies and stir a pot, making Kottu requires a theatrical, rhythmic technique. You’ll get to wield the traditional twin metal blades on a scorching hot griddle, smashing and chopping the roti to that signature sizzling soundtrack. It’s half cooking, half percussion performance! Live Customization at the Griddle: You won't just follow a recipe. You'll choose your own protein (spicy chicken, rich beef, fresh seafood, or hearty veg/egg) and dial in your preferred spice level right at the hot plate. You are in full control of your perfect plate. The Ultimate Spicy-Cold Pairing: Kottu is bold, savory, and packs a punch. We don't just serve dinner; we teach you why a crisp, cold local brew (like a Lion Lager or robust Lion Stout) is the absolute perfect antidote. The contrast of the hot, crispy roti with the ice-cold beer creates a flavor explosion you simply can't get at a restaurant.

Best Kottu you’ll ever have!
What a lovely dinner! The cooking class was great and the host knew a lot of history and information about the food, ingredients, and Sri Lankan culture. The best part was sharing the meal with the other guests and having lovely conversation around the table after. The host was so kind and funny! As a solo traveller it was so nice to connect with some new people in a meaningful way. Totally recommend this class! Best kottu I’ve ever had too.

Romesh was a great host! He explained so much of local food and culture. It was a small group, we were 5 in total and tge vibe in general was super nice and cozy! I hope i will be able to make kottu in Italy after this experience 😉

Fun cooking class
Super fun cooking class! We found it because it was the only one we found offering a Kottu class and we had a great time (and a great recipe to take away). We also just booked two days before, which was not a problem at all. Definitely recommend!

Best Kottu in Sri Lanka!
We had the best time learning how to cook traditional Sri Lankan Kottu with Romesh! 🇱🇰🍳 He knew so much about the dish and made the whole experience really fun and easy to follow. I found the cooking class on Hostelworld and reached out to Romesh via WhatsApp. Booking was super easy and uncomplicated. We were only a small group, which made the whole evening feel really personal and familiar. Everyone got to try every step themselves, and we literally made the Kottu from dough to the finished dish! I already can’t wait to try making it again back home. 😊 Thank you again, Romesh, for being such a great cooking teacher and also for the fun game night afterwards, where we got to show you our amazing magic tricks… which maybe didn’t work quite as well as planned haha. 😂 Such a fun and authentic experience and definitely one of our favorite memories from Sri Lanka. Highly recommend! ❤️

We had an unforgettable stay at the Surf & Yoga Retreat in Weligama! Danny was an amazing surf instructor—super patient, professional, and made learning so much fun. Ebru led the yoga sessions beautifully, creating a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. The retreat is just steps from the beach and has such a cozy, friendly vibe. Perfect for couples looking to surf, unwind, and enjoy the beautiful Sri Lankan coast!

After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Galle.
How much does After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner cost?
+
Prices start at $22 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Galle usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner take?
+
Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Galle is not rushed.
Is After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Galle, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Galle can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Galle and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does After surf : Hands-On Kottu Cooking Class with Street Food Dinner start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Galle within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Galle?
+
On Outty we rank every Galle experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sea waves sri lankan cooking class, Galle Unawatuna Cooking Class, Whale Watching Mirissa with WWC. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Galle?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Galle?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
