Mount Entoto
It is a historical place where Emperor Menelik II resided and built his palace, when he came from Ankober and founded Addis Ababa. It is considered a sacred mountain and has many monasteries. Mount Entoto is also the location of a number of celebrated churches, including Saint Raguel and Saint Mary.[1] The mountain is densely covered by eucalyptus trees that were imported from Australia during the reign of Menelik II, and mostly planted during Emperor Haile Selassie's reign. Thus, it is sometimes referred to as the "lung of Addis Ababa". The forest on the mountain is an important source of firewood for the city. It was also a source of building material in earlier times. The Ethiopian Heritage Trust, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, is working actively to change part of the mountain to its old state, a natural park. Entoto Natural Park is the northeastern rim of Addis Abeba, on the southeastern slopes of Mt. Entoto, covering an area of 1,300 hectares. It is situated at

Mercato Market
Mercato is the largest open-air market in Africa, covering several square miles and employing an estimated 13,000 people in 7,100 business entities.[citation needed] The primary merchandise passing through the Merkato is locally grown agricultural products — most notably coffee. Prior to the current Mercato, there was an open marketplace in Addis Ababa near St. George Church at the site where the City Hall stands now, but it ended with the Italian occupation of the 1930s. The occupiers moved the market further west to the area around the premises of Fitawrari Habte Giyorgis Dinagde, which they named Merkato Dinagde. Thus, the present Addis Merkato was founded by the segregationist policies of the Italian occupational government. Meanwhile, the Italians restricted the historic St. George Merkato to Europeans, renaming it Piazza, which featured European-style shops that displayed commodities through glass windows. The mostly Arab tradesmen who owned stores there eventually

My Addis Ababa Adventure with Friends: Coffee, Culture, Markets & the Stories Behind the City
I explored Addis Ababa with my friends and experienced the city in a way that felt much more personal than simply visiting the usual tourist attractions. With Glamour Omo Valley Tours, I discovered the capital through its history, culture, food, markets, and everyday life, while our local guide shared the stories behind the places we visited. We walked through lively parts of the city, visited important historical and cultural attractions, explored local markets, tasted authentic Ethiopian food, and experienced the famous Ethiopian coffee tradition. Traveling with my friends made everything more enjoyable because we were able to share every moment together—from trying new foods and discovering interesting places to taking photos, shopping for souvenirs, and laughing about the unexpected moments along the way. What I enjoyed most was that the experience didn’t feel like I was simply moving from one landmark to another. I actually got to understand more about Addis Ababa and the people who call it home. Glamour Omo Valley Tours gave us local insight that helped me appreciate the stories, traditions, and culture behind the places we visited. We enjoyed Ethiopian coffee, explored busy markets, tasted local dishes, and took time to enjoy some of the city’s beautiful views. By the end of the tour, I had collected much more than photographs. I had shared new experiences with my friends, learned more about Ethiopian culture, and created memories that made my time in Addis Ababa truly special.

absolutely amazing
I had the most memorable time during my Addis Ababa city tour. Our guide Mickey was absolutely amazing — very knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the history and culture of Ethiopia. He made every stop interesting and enjoyable, and his explanations were always clear and engaging. We visited some of the best places in Addis, and the whole day was perfectly organized. A special thanks also goes to our driver Gech, who was professional, safe, and very kind throughout the tour. Driving in Addis can be busy, but we always felt comfortable and relaxed with him. The combination of Mickey’s guiding and Gech’s driving made this experience truly unforgettable. I highly recommend this city tour to anyone visiting Addis Ababa and wanting to experience the culture, history, and local life in a fun and authentic way!

fascinating Trip
We reached out to Glamour tours for arranging tours and to design an itinerary for addis and omo valley for my parents and in-laws. We really appreciate the effort they took to make sure all our requests were considered and accommodated. Everything was planned very well, and they had a great experience. The drivers at both addis and omo valley were very punctual and helpful. They were very thorough and kept us all up to date with the pick up and drop time with the pictures. I will surely consider Glamour tours for our future travels.

We had an amazing Addis Ababa city tour with Danakil Depression Tours, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Ethiopia. The day was perfectly organized, giving us a great introduction to the history, culture, and daily life of the city. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and very passionate about Ethiopia. We visited the National Museum, where we saw the famous Lucy fossil, explored the bustling Mercato (one of the largest open-air markets in Africa), and enjoyed the historic atmosphere of Piazza. The visit to Mount Entoto was also unforgettable, offering beautiful panoramic views over Addis Ababa. We also had the chance to experience local culture through traditional coffee and delicious Ethiopian cuisine, which made the tour even more special. Everything was well arranged—from transportation to timing—and the team made sure we were comfortable throughout the day. Their professionalism and attention to detail really stood out. Addis Ababa city guided tours: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Addis Ababa.
How much does Addis Ababa city guided tours cost?
+
Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Addis Ababa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Addis Ababa city guided tours take?
+
Plan for about 7.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Addis Ababa is not rushed.
Is Addis Ababa city guided tours worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Addis Ababa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Addis Ababa city guided tours?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Addis Ababa city guided tours suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Addis Ababa city guided tours?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Addis Ababa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Addis Ababa and add a light layer if any part of the 7.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Addis Ababa city guided tours start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Addis Ababa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Addis Ababa?
+
On Outty we rank every Addis Ababa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Addis Ababa Authentic Private City Tour, Addis Ababa Guided City Tour With Airport & Hotel Pick Up, Full Day Tour of Addis Ababa with Hotel Pickup and Drop-off. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Addis Ababa?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Addis Ababa?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
