Medieval Bologna
We didn't really know what to expect but arrived at the address on the ticket to be told it wasn't opening at that address until Monday and the lady kindly took us to the old address. New place will be easier to find near the 2 towers. The VR sets were cleaned and fitted. We were given clear instructions. We wandered through the medieval streets of Bologna and had a birds eye view flying over the city.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for the review. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but the museum wasn't open yet at its new location.

Excellent Medieval VR Tour of Bologna
The VR tour of medeival Bologna was great; very well done. Enjoyable (even for a 58-year-old like me, and I'm sure kids would appreciate it even more) and informative. Choose the longer version (25 minutes). Note that the same experience is also available at the Museum of the History of Bologna (for a higher charge I believe as it includes entrance to the whole museum). Note: At the latter location there are also experiences about the Roman era and 18th century (canals) in the city. I did these too (at extra charge) and would recommend them (the short versions) somewhat, in the aforementioned order. Returning to this attraction -- the Time Machine museum -- it also has a show called "Dante's Inferno" which was sort of grisly but entertaining enough. (I'd choose the short version.) Note: This museum is very small, centrally located near the main tower.
Response from the operator: Many thanks for the compliments, our audience is truly transversal... from 9 to 99 years old... children have fun and adults can also appreciate the quality and historical reliability of our 3D reconstructions. It is true that La Macchina del Tempo is holding a collaboration with the Museum of the History of Bologna until the end of the year with experiences specifically related to the city

Only just average
The place was not easy to find! Address on TripAdvisor is incorrect so use website details. Then it's a couple of rooms in a very nice palazzo. Experience was pretty low tech, although interesting.
Response from the operator: We apologise for the inconvenience of the wrong address, we will take care of it as soon as possible. VR technology with Oculus Quest headsets is still the most advanced for this kind of experience

Lack of Technical quality leads to bummer
Entering with high expectations well on time, we first found nobody at reception and then 15 min after the time slot were let in by a guy who made no contact with us, but just almost inaudible explained how we had to use our controllers. Not much fun in his job. That was clear. Then it began and the devices were not working properly or the language or sound had to be adapted … four people with 1 employee. Finally it was running. It is Supposed to be a 2021 Virtual reality experience but the digital quality is from 10 years back. All new games on devices at our home have a higher quality and nothing came true like ‘you are guided into the world of the 1st century in Bologna’. It was so unreal and (I am really sorry to say) not catching, that we now were happy it only lasted for 25 min. Rather disappointed about our 4 x 18€ per ticket !!! we left the building. Great idea but take a look at professional institutes like Disney or Omniversum movies to give your cliënts a real sensation of being in a different time zone… this is 1990 technology
Response from the operator: Dear customers, we’re very sorry for the inconvenience. Unfortunately COVID has been impacting the amount of visitors we welcome in a pretty serious way, and consequently we’ve been facing difficulties scheduling shifts with a balanced number of employees. We are trying to fix this issue. Again, we’re sorry for what happened. Our museum was affected negatively by COVID, just like many other establishments. As you can see from many other reviewers, this is not the standard we’re accustomed to, either technology-wise nor as far as customer care is concerned.

Nice!
Something new and different than usual, we enjoyed it. You come to the room, you get your VR set and you are ready to explore. The best part - flying :)

A virtual walk in medieval Bologna: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bologna.
How much does A virtual walk in medieval Bologna cost?
+
Prices start at $21 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bologna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does A virtual walk in medieval Bologna take?
+
Plan for about 0.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bologna is not rushed.
Is A virtual walk in medieval Bologna worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 56 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bologna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule A virtual walk in medieval Bologna?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is A virtual walk in medieval Bologna suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 0.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book A virtual walk in medieval Bologna?
+
Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bologna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bologna and add a light layer if any part of the 0.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does A virtual walk in medieval Bologna start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bologna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Bologna?
+
On Outty we rank every Bologna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bologna Local Pasta Cooking Class, Ragu, Spritz, Wine & Gelato, Bologna Food Experience: Factory tours & Lunch By Italian Days, Small Group Bologna Food Tour – Local Food & Market Experience. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Bologna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Bologna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
