This non-technical Kilimanjaro camping route is relatively new and one of the most popular routes currently chosen for ascending Kilimanjaro for its scenery, views and route profile. The route starts in the remote west Kilimanjaro area through the forest reserve and generally is much quieter due to it’s distant starting point. The route approaches the Kibo cone through the Shira Plateau and eventually joining the southern circuit passing the small ‘scrambling’ (using your hands and legs) section at the Barranco wall which truly gives you that mountain climbing feeling without any special equipment or experience.

    Meru and Kilimanjaro summits!

We did the 4 day Meru climb and the 8 day Kilimanjaro climb via the Lemosho route in September 2026. It was actually less crowded than we expected. We had an amazing crew that was so helpful, nice and caring. We had awesome guides (Lightgod and Iddy) who took our daily health checks very serious. At the end of the climb, the crew almost felt like one big family! Thanks to their support all three of us (23F, 56F, 58M) were able to summit both mountains. The food was delicious, our tents were comfortable and the portable toilet was amazing. An unforgettable experience that we would highly recommend to anyone looking for an adventure!

Response from the operator: Dear Andrea, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and congratulations to all three of you on summiting both Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro! We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your time with Lightgod, Iddy and the rest of the crew, and especially that their care, support and daily health checks helped make the experience both enjoyable and successful. It is also great to hear that the food, tents and portable toilet all added to your comfort along the way. Thank you again for choosing Shah Tours for both climbs and for recommending the experience so highly. We will be very happy to share your kind words with the entire mountain team. Kind regards, Shah Tours

    Kilimandscharo

It was the best experience we have ever had with Shah Tours. We always felt completely comfortable and well taken care of. The guides, porters, and cook were incredibly kind and friendly. They always greeted us with a smile and even sang for us. Even at 4,700 meters above sea level, they baked us a cake because it was our wedding anniversary. That was such a special and unforgettable gesture. I can honestly say that this was one of the most amazing experiences of our lives, and we would recommend Shah Tours to anyone without hesitation! Thank you all and best wishes to Mathayo, Felix and the Team! We miss you guys.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a beautiful review! We’re incredibly happy to hear that your Kilimanjaro climb became one of the most memorable experiences of your lives. Knowing that you felt comfortable, well cared for and welcomed by the whole team means a great deal to us. And what a wonderful way to celebrate your wedding anniversary! We’re delighted that the team could surprise you with a cake at 4,700 metres, certainly an anniversary celebration to remember. Thank you as well for your kind words about Mathayo, Felix, the guides, porters and cook. We’ll be very happy to pass your message on to them all. Congratulations again on an amazing journey, and warm wishes from everyone at Shah Tours. The team will be very happy to hear that you miss them too!

Pole pole to the roof of africa with Shah, was great.

When deciding which company to book for our Kilimanjaro and Safari trip in Tanzanie we have been in contact with several companies. We wanted to do the private tour as a couple. We had 9 full days to organize. Firstly we thought we will do 7 days and 2 days safari (Tarangire and Ngorngoro). Nevertheless, as our priority was Kilimanjaro we selected 8 days Lemosho route to increase our chances to reach the top. This left only 1 day for safari first. I was trying to discuss with companies the options to go faster If we feel well and then possibly have time to do both national Parks of Tarangire and Ngorongoro. Shah Tours tourned out to be the only very flexible operator to offer this option of shortening the trip If everything goes well. So, on the day 6, when arriving to Kosovo camp from Karaga camp, we asked If we could proceed with our summit on the same day, they did not hesitate to support us. During the whole trip the guides (Innocent and Leon) and the porters shared very positive energy and support. A Lot of dancing, laughter and happy faces even in hard moments. Finally, thanks to all that, we manager to finish our hike in 7 days instead of 8 and had enough time to include another day of safari in our itinerary. No planning, no phone calls, no waiting. Shah was monitoring our progress and once the office received the message we are descending on day 7, everything was organized (additional accomodation and guide for safari, food and transport). We had amazing time in tanzanie, Thank you Shah Tours for your work and efforts in making our trip unforgetable.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a thoughtful review and for trusting Shah Tours with both your Kilimanjaro climb and safari! We’re very happy that the 8 day Lemosho Route gave you the time and confidence you wanted for the mountain, and even happier that everything came together so well once your progress allowed the itinerary to be adjusted. Decisions on Kilimanjaro always depend on how climbers are feeling and the conditions at the time, so it was wonderful that Innocent, Leon and the crew were able to support you safely while our office team reorganised the arrangements below the mountain. It sounds like there was plenty of laughter, dancing and positive energy along the way, which is exactly the kind of spirit we love to hear about from our crews. Congratulations on reaching the Roof of Africa, and we’re delighted you were also able to enjoy both Tarangire and Ngorongoro before heading home. We’ll be very pleased to share your kind words with the entire team. Warm wishes from everyone at Shah Tours!

8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Moshi.

How much does 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb cost?

    +

Prices start at $3,125 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Moshi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb take?

    +

Plan for about 192 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Moshi is not rushed.

Is 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 29 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Moshi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 192-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb?

    +

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Moshi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Moshi and add a light layer if any part of the 192-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Moshi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Moshi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Moshi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Materuni Waterfall, Coffee Tour and Picnic Hot Lunch, Materuni Waterfall and Coffee Plantation Half Day Tour, Kilimanjaro climb, Machame Route (7-day). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Moshi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Moshi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in 8 Day Kilimanjaro Lemosho Climb?
