    About this experience

This non-technical Kilimanjaro route is the only route to offer permanent mountain huts at each overnight stop. Marangu, also known as the ‘Coca-Cola’ route due to its popularity in the past however, is no longer the favored choice of the modern trekkers who prefer the longer camping based routes. Marangu approaches the Kibo cone from the Southeast and ascends and descends via the same trail which has been modified to make it more climber friendly. This is the perfect choice for amateur trekkers looking to avoid camping.

    Enjoyed

We started our tour with 4 guides, the walk through the different terrains was an amazing experience, i was happy that Shah Tours catered for vegan food through and the chef cooked delicious food apt for mountain climbing. This route was hard for me as a beginner but i made it. All the personal porters were amazing.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review and for choosing Shah Tours for your Kilimanjaro climb! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the changing landscapes along the Marangu Route and, especially, that our chef was able to keep you well fuelled with delicious vegan meals throughout the trek. Kilimanjaro is certainly a challenge, particularly for a first time climber, so congratulations on making it! We’ll be very happy to pass your kind words on to the guides, chef and porters who supported you along the way. Warm wishes from the whole Shah Tours team!

    Positive, professional, personal, empathetic.

Shah Tours were great hosts, from arrival day at our lodge our guide Richard was on-hand to meet and help us prepare, re-assure us and go through our kit check. On day 1 the team was on-time, cheerful, energetic and positive and they never reduced their level. Richard and our second guide Daniel were 5*, professional, knowledgeable and organised but almost more importantly, sympathetic, kind and engaged. We truly felt cared for and supported. The 6 day route is tough but acheivable, there are huge highs and some lows, freezing rain on Day 2 being one of them. Richard or Daniel were always at our side and they also ran a super efficient portering team. In camp we were superbly looked after, over-fed and the daily health-checks just enhanced how our well-beiung was the number one priority. Summit night was tough, Richard never for one moment let us doubt ourselves, he saw us through a period of vomiting, (sorry but it happened), got us where we needed to be in good time and never eased off until we were successfully back in camp. The last day down to the park gate was long but we had fun and chatted on the way as we regained energy and the finish line approached. If you are going to do this epic adventure there is no reason at all in our opinion why Shah and Richard and Daniel should not be high on your list of providers.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much, Andy, for this fantastic and detailed review. We are truly grateful for your kind words about Richard and Daniel, they will be very proud to read this. It means a lot to us that you felt cared for and supported from the moment you arrived, and that the professionalism, empathy and organization of the team stood out throughout your 6 day adventure. Kilimanjaro always brings its challenges and as you said, summit night can test anyone. We’re especially pleased that Richard’s encouragement and steady support helped you through the tougher moments and safely back to camp. Your trust in the team during those times means everything to us. On behalf of the entire mountain crew, guides, porters and kitchen team – thank you for choosing Shah Tours and for recommending us so highly. We’re delighted you had such an epic adventure and hope to welcome you back to Tanzania again in the future, perhaps for a safari next time!

I would highly recommend Richard and Daniel as your guides, they were incredible. They were knowledgeable, caring and fun! I went with a colleague and both of us couldn't have asked for more from the experience and the guides. Do choose them as your guides, you won't be disappointed!

Safe, successful and stunning trip up

Incredible experience safely guided by our two guides Augustin and Innocent. We went up as a couple with them and 6 other porters including cook, luggage carrier and kitchen assistants who where all super friendly, motivated and helpful. We felt well assisted all time and at the same time we could hike independently from time to time the first days, without the guides always next to us, but still felt well guided any time. The guides were knowledgable about vegetations and animals along the route. But More importantly, they always checked in our health every morning and evening taking oxygen and pulse. They answered all our questions and provided us with a detailed briefing for the upcoming days. Though we did not struggle with altidude sickness, we had the feeling they would have taken it seriously and advised wisely on proceeding or not - unlike other guides we widnessed. The work of the porters is also incredible as they carry your extra bag and all food up. The 3-course-menus served were more than enough, delicious and exceeded our expectations.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful feedback and for choosing to climb Kilimanjaro with us on the Marangu Route. We’re delighted to hear that Augustin and Innocent - together with our porter and kitchen team - helped make your experience safe, well-supported, and memorable. Your kind words about their professionalism, health monitoring, knowledge of the mountain, and thoughtful briefings mean a great deal to us and to them. We’re especially glad that you felt both well-guided and able to enjoy your own hiking rhythm during the first days - that balance is something our guides take great care to achieve. It’s also great to hear that the meals exceeded your expectations and that the hard work of our crew was appreciated. Congratulations again on your successful 6-day Marangu climb, and thank you for trusting us with your adventure. We hope to welcome you back to Tanzania again one day - whether for another trek or a safari! Warm regards, The Shah Tours Team

Mt. Kilimanjaro- A summit climb to remember.

Recently summited Kili with a fantastic team from Shah Tours led by Hamza and Focus. They were terrific guides not only caring for and guiding myself and my husband to the summit, but they also were great with the team of the chef, waiter, dishwasher, and other porters. As for the company, we coordinated with Shukuru who was exceptional too, so polite, professional and knowledgeable. Everyone together made it a trip to remember.

Response from the operator: Hi Angela, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We are happy to hear that your Kilimanjaro climb was a memorable one. Hamza, Focus, and the entire team, including Shukuru, are all truly exceptional, and we’re delighted that they made such a positive impact on your journey. Your kind words about the guides, chef, waiter, dishwasher, and porters mean the world to us – they are the heart of what we do. It was an honor to be part of your adventure, and we hope the memories of your summit continue to inspire you for years to come. Wishing you all the best for your future travels! Regards, Shah Team.

6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Moshi.

How much does 6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb cost?

    +

Prices start at $1945 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Moshi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb take?

    +

Plan for about 144 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Moshi is not rushed.

Is 6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Moshi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 144-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb?

    +

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Moshi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Moshi and add a light layer if any part of the 144-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 6-Day Kilimanjaro Marangu Climb start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Moshi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Moshi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Moshi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Materuni Waterfall, Coffee Tour and Picnic Hot Lunch, Kilimanjaro climb by Lemosho Route (7-day), Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Moshi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Moshi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
