Fantastic trip with Machu Picchu Expeditions
Our experience with Machu Picchu Expeditions was amazing! Roger our guide was informative, patient and so knowledgeable. Highly recommend Roger and Machu Picchu Expeditions. The food was delicious, creative and exactly what we needed to get us through long days of hiking. Highly recommend!

This tour was amazing, and what a deal compared to other companies!
This was such a memorable experience! The main difference is it being cheaper was that water wasn’t provided, which was fine as I brought my own filter. Such a steal of a price! The mornings were very early, but so worth it. The food, accommodation, and views were absolutely epic. Our tour guide was fun, but there were a few times where we felt like he wasn’t guiding us and no one could find him. We got lost towards the end of day 2 which added 50 min to our v long day, and I’m not sure I saw him carrying any emergency gear that was promised, as he didn’t have a backpack on him. 2 members of the hike got altitude sickness, but he didn’t wait or go back for them. And lastly, I was not very happy that during pick up the other guide blasted loud music at 5am and declined turning it off so “the driver could stay awake” (after travelling to 23 countries and going on countless morning tours, not once did this ever happen where I wasn’t allowed to sleep and forced to endure loud music). There were also a couple of times we were asked to tip (last day of the chef, last day or the porter), when I was told initially that tips are paid at the end and shared with the team, so that threw me off a bit. If you took the time to read this, I want to emphasize that I was still able to have a great time and it was well worth the $. Tips: Buy your Machu Picchu entrance ticket well in advance to avoid the stress, the little flies are actually bloodsucking aggressive mosquitoes- use lots of spray, and only bring 1 jacket (I never used my 2nd one). Thanks!

Thank you Fidel for the best experience ever!🪶❤️
Don’t expect this experience to be a walk in the park, it was a very challenging 5 days, but honestly, I think it was also one of the best 5 days of my life. The best part of my experience with Machu Picchu expeditions wasn’t seeing Humantay Lake, reaching the top of Salkantay Pass, seeing the vast landscapes and diverse ecosystems or even finally getting to Machu Picchu! The best part of the trip was our tour guide Fidel. A charismatic, powerhouse who not only knew everything you’d ever need to know about the mountains, wildlife and Peruvian culture, but was also one of the funniest kindest souls who would bend over backwards to ensure you are having the best experience of your life, and was always managed to keep your spirits high. If you aren’t as lucky as I was due to the weather, or other unforeseen circumstances, I hope and pray you are lucky enough to have Fidel a your guide, because whatever happens you’re in good hands and you’ll have an amazing time. Tupananchiskama Fidel ❤️

Best Trip Ever - Thank You Fidel ❤️
This really was one of the best experiences I have ever had in my whole life!! Our tour guide Fidel was one of the most beautiful souls we have ever met, so highly knowledgeable, kind, caring, and extremely funny! He is what made the trip, along with all the incredible views and experiences of course. The admission fees were not too expensive, we ended up spending about 500 soles on top of the original price during our trip, so make sure to take out some money before leaving. We didn’t have Machu Picchu tickets until we got to Aguas Calientes but were lucky to purchase circuit 2 for the next day when we got there, so don’t fret if you haven’t bought your tickets in advance, it will work out. We did the 4 nights 5 days and it was so worth it - we really enjoyed the hot springs and coffee experiences. The atmosphere of the trip was incredible, with Fidel keeping our spirits high at all times, it’s so amazing to share this experience with others and get to know other travellers along the way and make new friends! There were I think about 14 of us in our group, which was a great size - not too big and not too small, some other tours seemed to have much bigger groups which would be less intimate. Overall this was one of the best weeks of my life and we owe so much to Fidel and his amazing hospitality. And of course to the horseman and chefs who did fantastic jobs also. Literally no complaints. Completely worth the money - the accommodation and food completely exceeded our expectations. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by, if you’re going to Peru DO THIS TRIP!! Tupananchiskama ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you Guido
Guido was our guide for the Salkantay 5 day trek. He was very professional and managed our group of 7 well. We were made up of several smaller tour operators who joined up to make the numbers work. The group was a mix of nationalities and all in our twenties. A great 5 days, very achievable amount of hiking. 2 of our accommodations were brilliant. We were cooked for every meal and catered to two vegetarians in our group.

Why this scores 82
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.
How much does 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes cost?
+
Prices start at $300 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes take?
+
Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.
Is 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 82 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 1,158 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 120-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes?
+
Around 405 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 120-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 5 Day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Panoramic Domes start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cusco?
+
On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Full-Day Humantay Lake Trek (Meals Included), Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cusco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
