    Great Company

Great experience from the start. Excellent communication from the company. We had to adjust our dates and there were no issues with that. The tour itself was excellent. John did a great job driving, there is so much driving, but he made sure we got where we needed to be at all times. The hotels were dead, must have been the off season but they were all very nice. Everything was as it was listed in the guide. I have no complaints and would highly recommend.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your amazing review! We’re so happy to hear that you had a great safari experience with Bamboo Ecotours. We appreciate the recommendation. ~Edison & Team

Such a great tour operator and experience

I first contacted Bamboo Ecotours pre-COVID, and despite the fact this trip went on the backburner for a while, I always had the feeling I was dealing with a very professional operator. When I got back in contact with Edison in 2025, the same excellent communication and support was still evident, and I was excited to finally book. I love being able to travel with reputable local operators rather than big Western brands, and the decision was 100% the right one here. Edison kept in touch at all the right times in the lead-up, and then put is in contact with Fred who would be our guide and driver for the five days. Fred was friendly, helpful, calm and safe, always letting us know what to expect in each leg of the journey - from road conditions, to length of time, to when we would eat. Our tour started from Kigali and took in the very distressing Genocide Museum there. On we went, and it was really interesting to see the towns and villages of Rwanda and Uganda as we went. Our accommodations were great throughout, starting with our lodge in Bwindi Forest Park. Fred was super-organised in ensuring we were at the park gate in time, and as he seems to know and get on well with so many people we met, we reckon he may have had a part to play in ensuring we didn’t have too onerous a search for the gorillas! Needless to say, the gorilla experience itself was amazing and memorable. Onwards then to Queen Elizabeth National Park, with a couple of stops at a rural banana stand, and for lunch (all the lunch stops were excellent). While we didn’t get to see the tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector, the whole park was elephant heaven, amongst other wildlife. Again, Buffalo Safari Lodge was beautiful to stay in, including an elephant and a hippo wandering through the grounds! An early start for our game drive the next morning, with a range of fabulous animal encounters, including vast herds of elephants, a hyena with a newly acquired kill, and a close encounter with a baboon. Next up was the Kazinga Channel boat trip, which was really lovely with the nicest of guides. Fred was on the hand at the end to bring us for an extra and unexpected game drive, one last effort to spot those elusive lions. The final day was a busy but hugely enjoyable one - the chimpanzee trek was 4 hours but really good fun, and then it was a drive down the road back to Kigali. There is a reason that Bamboo gets such consistently excellent reviews. They are.a professional team who take pride in their work, and do everything to ensure their guests have the best and most engaging experience possible. Edison and Fred made sure all our expectations were met on such a long anticipated trip, and we are delighted to have put our visit in their hands.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your safari experience. We’re delighted to hear you had a memorable trip with Bamboo Ecotours and that we surpassed your expectations. This means a lot to us. ~Edison & Team

    Well organized professional service

Together with my husband we went on 6 day tour covering Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga, Gorillas in Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth National park and Chimps in Kalinzu Forrest. Everything was organized very well and professionally starting with support. Edison helped us plan the trip and advised us on best itinerary given our timing and permits availability. John who was our guide was very well organized, provided a lot of information, was fun to be around and most importantly got us to see all the animals including the tree climbing lions that are hard to come by. We felt very comfortable and were well taken care of. I highly recommend Bamboo Ecotours if you want to explore the wildlife of Uganda.

Response from the operator: Your positive feedback is much appreciated. We are pleased you enjoyed your trip. Thank you for sharing your trip experience and for the recommendation. ~Edison and Team

    Best time in Uganda

I just completed a 5 day/4 night tour of western Uganda with Bamboo Ecotours. First of all, Western Uganda is just incredibly beautiful. Secondly, it is clear that the owner Edison and most of all my incredible, friendly, knowledgeable guide, Herbert, have such a love for the country and genuinely want you to enjoy it. He felt like a good friend from day 1. I felt extremely looked after. Highly recommend booking with this company (and bonus if you ask for Herbert).

Response from the operator: Thank you for the feedback. It is a pleasure to hear you enjoyed your trip with Bamboo Ecotours. ~Edison and Team.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kampala.

How much does 5 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Kalinzu Forest Chimp Trek cost?

    +

Prices start at $2,780 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kampala usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 5 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Kalinzu Forest Chimp Trek take?

    +

Plan for about 120 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kampala is not rushed.

Is 5 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Kalinzu Forest Chimp Trek worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Kampala, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 5 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Kalinzu Forest Chimp Trek?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is 5 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Kalinzu Forest Chimp Trek suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 120-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 5 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Kalinzu Forest Chimp Trek?

    +

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kampala can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kampala and add a light layer if any part of the 120-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 5 Day Gorillas, Wildlife and Kalinzu Forest Chimp Trek start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kampala within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kampala?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kampala experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kampala’s Best Experience walking tour, Kampala Walking City Tours (Women-Guided), Kampala Heart of Walking Adventure. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kampala?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kampala?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
