The 1st day on public bus...
The 1st day on public bus was in an Intercity Gold seat and quite comfortable. Very few tours in winter to choose from but this one available every day. I was the only person on 2 of the tours and drivers were very good and knowledgeable.
Response from the operator: What a wonderful review and so pleased you had such a fabulous time. There are benefits to travelling in the off season for sure! Thank you for sending in.

Absolutely a scam tour
This was advertised as 4-day touring from Wellington to Auckland. There are descriptions, but not in detail, you only get your play-by-play itinerary two weeks before depart, when we have arranged everything around the tour. Many things vaguely described on the original itinerary were not included. I thought we get to view a little bit of Wellington, and a little bit along the way. They actually threw you in a bus, equivalent to greyhound, from Wellington to Rotorua 7:45am departure, 6:30pm arrival), then they instructed you to walk to your own hotel and check in. That was your first day, nothing else! I was extremely disappointed. The second day, they only scheduled one activity: to tour a native Māori village, which took less than two hours. Nothing else. We really wanted to see the famous geothermal park and geyser, and Skyline Park, which are not included at all (although the description of the tour leads you to believe that they are part of the tour). I had to frantically reach out to the contact person to rearrange the Māori village tour time, and spend more than $400 to arrange visiting those places by myself. The third day we were sent to be with a local Tour company, which I could have booked with much cheaper fee from either Rotorua or Auckland. The tour included two tourist spots then drove to Auckland, dropped off at a hotel. The fourth day morning we were picked up by another local Auckland city tour bus until noon. That was the conclusion of the tour! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? It cost the three of us close to $3000USD to book this trip. It is totally not worth it and I want a refund. I have booked many tours with Viator, and we have always been happy with the tours that we booked. This is a total disappointment and disaster! Again, I want a refund!
Response from the operator: A scam review unfortunately - the instructions and itinerary are very very clear from the very first enquiry. This is an itinerary to get you from A to B as you instructed. It is not a tour. A tour can be arranged with a tour guide at a higher price point. For the budget conscious this is designed to give you a taste of the North Island without the anxiety of driving. We are sorry your itinerary did not live up to expectations.

II recommend this trip. Good guides all along, you get to see so much but there is also time to explore on your own
It's an interesting concept with lots of different drivers; guides and two different hotels, but us it all went very smoothly. Well organised. Please note! It's three and half days and three nights
Response from the operator: Thank you for your review and sharing your experience. It is so much better getting authentic reviews from people who have experienced these itineraries. Thank you again.

Good Tour covers Hobbiton n Māori village
Nice tour to do north island. Māori Village, Hobbiton and Waitomo caves was the highlight of this tour. City tour in Auckland can be improved to cover more places like visit to the museum etc.
Response from the operator: Great feedback thank you - and appreciate your review. Great comments.

Hotels just OK
Overall experience was fine. The provided hotels could have been better. Hotel in Rotorua is old, and feels like it. Tour in Auckland is the hop on hop off bus - that should be mentioned in the overall description.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your review - your comments are noted. And we will do our best to improve where you have mentioned.

Why this scores 51
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Wellington.
How much does 4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $845 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Wellington usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour take?
+
Plan for about 96 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Wellington is not rushed.
Is 4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Wellington, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is 4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 96-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Wellington can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Wellington and add a light layer if any part of the 96-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 4Day/3Nights Wellington to Auckland Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Wellington within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Wellington?
+
On Outty we rank every Wellington experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Overnight Experience Tour on Kapiti Island, Discover Wellington 3 hour City Tour, Martinborough Wine and Wild Coast Tour from Wellington. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Wellington?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Wellington?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
