The Chinese fishing nets, locally known as "Cheena Vala"are fixed installations on the sea shore for an unusual form of fishing — shore operated lift nets. Paradesi Synagogue
Nestled in a quiet part of Jew Town, the Paradesi Synagogue dates back over a century and is home to numerous rare antiques. Almost 1500 years after the Jews first established ties with Kerala, the Jewish synagogue was constructed in 1568. It was constructed on property donated by the former Cochin ruler, which is next to Mattancherry Palace. The Jewish community of Cochin constructed the synagogue, which is the oldest in the Commonwealth. In various Indian languages, the word Paradesi refers to a foreigner. It speaks about White Jews, a mixed group of Jews from Europe, the Middle East, and Kodungalloor.

Mattancherry Palace

As a gift for King Veera Kerala Verma of the Kochi dynasty, it was constructed by the Portuguese 1545 CE. After undergoing extensive repairs by the Dutch, it became known as the Dutch Palace. A beautiful collection of murals adorns this two story palace.

Amazing tour!
Our cruise ship had a stop in Cochin and we decided to select this tour. It was much better than we thought!! Our driver was excellent. He took us to see the main sights and explained really well what it was about. It even included a surprise stop that we loved. We got to experience the culture, the beautiful sights and meet some cool people! Highly recommended!!!

4 hour Private Tuk Tuk tour of Cochin
Booked through Viator. Communication before the trip excellent. Our Tuk Tuk guide and driver Sanjeev was waiting for us outside the cruise terminal. We were 2 couples so we had 2 Tuk Tuks. It was a really good experience, our drivers were very experienced and navigated the traffic with ease. They took us to the key sites and pointed out the places of interest. They were very flexible and were keen to show us their city. Both drivers were very friendly and just wanted to ensure we had a good experience. We saw churches, temples, the Laundry and Chinese fishing nets and Sanjeev explained about the culture. Would highly recommend this tour.

Delightful and informative guides
We were visiting Cochin from a cruise ship. Saneer and Sajeeb were our guides and we had 2 tuk tuks for 4 of us. Both guides were absolutely delightful and very kind. They took us to the top highlights of Cochin and looked after us well, explaining the main features of each place. The Dhobi Khana laundry and the Chinese fishing nets were a particular highlight.

Saw more places than intended.
Our Kochi trip was excellent because of Sajeeb. He was knowledgable about the area, professional and saw more places than indented. Highly recommended so you don’t need to worry about parking, places to eat or don’t know where to go in the city. Will definitely spend more time in Kochi on our next trip with Sajeeb.
