Dr. Jovanelly has been leading trips and researching Iceland since 2006 so she knows the island like the back of her hand. Additionally, this tour offers many more active experiences than our big-box competitors and all the excursion fees are included in our price. Literally the excursion of a lifetime!
I took my whole family - two adults and three kids - on this most amazing trip. First of all, Iceland is a unique island that everyone should visit at least once. But the Adventure Geology Tour ups the ante 10-fold. Tour guides Joe and Tamie (Dr. Jo), the PhD geologist who literally wrote the book on Iceland's Geology, have been there scores of times, so they know every potential plus and minus and how to navigate them. While Joe kept us entertained with stories, great music, and cultural/historical info, Tamie was drilling down to educate the whole group about Iceland's very unique geology. I think there were around 16 total people on the trip, and we enjoyed every one of them. We are now friends with some of them and have even travelled to visit them. This is two weeks of whatever level of adventure you want. Although it's best if you're in good shape and can hike up volcanos and down into lava tubes (all very safely, of course), you won't miss out if your a bit less mobile. Make no mistake, this trip is not cheap. In fact, I was looking at if for years, literally, but held off because of the cost. But now I understand that it's not cheap for a reason - 1) the logistics must be very daunting for the organizers, especially to make it all so seamless to us guests; 2) food is expensive in Iceland, especially food that is palatable to Americans and Europeans; 3) we literally travelled the entire island. Now, I think the trip was one of the most valuable things we've ever done and WELL worth the money! We will never forget the things we saw and did. And the hosts even bend over backwards to try to meet whatever little needs you might have. I couldn't be more happy with our trip! If you are on the fence, please just do it! You will not regret it.

An Amazing Adventure in Iceland
Well, I am a retired attorney who had little interest in geology But a law school friend had gone on this tour and I went with another law school friend. The tour begins and OMG, all of the people except John and I (and Tami's amazing husband, Joe) had some experience with geology. BUT I learned -- from Tami's lectures, her books, from just being in Iceland for so long, and it was beautiful and fascinating and just an amazing experience. The tour was wonderfully organized, the accommodations great, the food in Iceland really good. (The best bagel and lox I've had). I loved it all and am so greatful to Tami and Joe for organizing this. Go! It is a phenomenal way to see and learn about Iceland.

Great Tour of Iceland
We have been on many tours and this was one of the best. Although neither my husband nor I are geologists, the explanations were clear and there were a lot of geologists on the trip to explain and discuss things besides our guides. Country was beautiful, sights interesting, small group (13 people) was manageable and fun, and very well organized. Highly recommended.

Bucket List Trip to Iceland!
We booked this trip because it was the wife’s (geologist) dream to stand on the Mid Atlantic Ridge. We saw the trip advertised in The Professional Geologist magazine- since we’d recently retired we said why not? The non geologist engineer husband emailed Dr Jovanelly to ask her if he’d be listing the subject matter. She called us and assured us that “No “ many non- geologists attend and enjoy. Also that we were not too old to do the planned activities. If you can hike on uneven terrace for an hour or so a day- you should be good. ( Our opinion). Each day of the itinerary was well planned and thought out. We went counter clockwise around the island from younger features to older features. There was plenty of time to explore and wander the sites and cities we stayed in. Options for meals were provided in several price points- “fast “ food in Iceland is good!! We were lucky to have good weather only one full day of rain and fog on the last day returning to Reykjavik. Plan on bringing layers but rain pants and a waterproof rain jacket is a must along with non- cotton layers. Dr Tammy and Joey made the trip interesting and fun. They also liked to hear other opinions on what we see- both fanciful and professional. Out of our group of 14 guests 5 were geologists or geotechnical engineers and one civil/ mining engineer. We highly recommend this trip to both geologists and non- geologists!
