About this experience

Bakong's uniqueness lies in its status as the first temple-mountain of the Khmer Empire, serving as the prototype for later structures like Angkor Wat. It is notable for its five-tiered sandstone pyramid, symbolic representation of Mount Meru with its moats and enclosing walls, and the earliest known example of a Naga causeway in Khmer architecture. Additionally, its large, preserved stone guardian statues of elephants and lions on the lower levels are distinctive features. Floating villages is their entire community infrastructure built on water, including homes, schools, and shops, with the entire village moving and adapting its structure to the changing water levels of the seasons. This includes two main types of structures: those that float directly on the water and those that are built on stilts that rise high above the ground during the dry season.

Cambodian floating villages are different to Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar, because in Cambodia they are built high off the ground on tall posts.

Village tour

We really enjoyed today’s tour. It is more important to us to see how the people in the country really live. We visited a school for grade school children that were learning English. To get to this village we took a boat ride along the river and saw the lives of those who live along the waterways. It will open your mind to the way the people live and the drastic need for education.

Response from the operator: We're delighted you had an unforgettable experience with Mr Oun Kosorl! His passion for Angkor Wat temples is indeed contagious. Thank you for your high recommendation and kind words.

So interesting!

Mr. K. Was charming and insightful on the history of Siem Riep and the Various Temples. It was hard to see the apparent difficult life of the floating village people but they seemed happy themselves. We were unlucky in that the weather wasn’t great on Tonle Sap lake but it’s probably lovely on a sunny day! Well done Mr. K. And good luck with your guiding for the future.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your reviewing and we hope to see you one day. Pls have nice day.

We were taken by Mr K to the village and we were not in any way disappointed. Mr K’s knowledge and charm are both insightful and informative. Do not miss the opportunity if going to this and going with him!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your reviewing and we hope to see you one day. Pls have nice day. Best Regard Mr K

1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Siem Reap.

How much does 1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village cost?

+

Prices start at $18 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Siem Reap usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Siem Reap is not rushed.

Is 1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule 1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is 1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 6. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book 1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 1 Day Private Tour Bakong Temples & Floating Village start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?

+

On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Siem Reap?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
