Amazing time (wear extra sunscreen on backs of legs)
This was my first time surfing ever, how can you go to Hawaii and not try to learn to surf?! I had an absolutely amazing time! We practiced few times on land before heading into the water, and i actually ended up catching 6+ waves! i felt safe the whole time and like my instructor cared to give me the best experience. WEAR EXTRA SUNSCREEN ON THE BACKS OF YOUR LEGS. Like soooo much sunscreen that your legs are white, if you sunburn easily. I had a great time but got a pretty bad burn
Response from the operator: Mahalo for sharing your experience! We're thrilled that your first time surfing was such a success and that you caught 6+ waves—what an awesome accomplishment! We're glad your instructor helped you feel safe, supported, and confident throughout the lesson. And thank you for the sunscreen tip—we couldn't agree more, Hawaii's sun is no joke! ☀️ We hope the sunburn has faded and that we'll see you back in the water again soon. Aloha! 🤙

Kids surfing lesson
Our surfing lessons were nothing short of amazing. Trevor was great with my 7-year old and they even got to catch some waves. As a parent, he made me feel extremely comfortable and safe. So far, the height of our trip has been this lesson.
Response from the operator: Mahalo for your kind words. We’re so happy to hear your lesson with Trevor was a highlight of your trip and that you felt comfortable and safe. We’ll be sure to share your praise with Trevor — he’ll be thrilled! 🌊🤙

Tommy was a great...
Tommy was a great instructor for my 10yo son’s private surfing lesson! This was his second time surfing in Hawai’i (first time he was 7yo) and Tommy was a patient and supportive, giving my son encouragement and tips to catch the waves. He also listened to his needs - when my son got too cold he brought him in and was able to provide some bandages as my son got a few scrapes on his foot from the reef (you may want to wear reef walkers while surfing to avoid cuts). Gone Surfing was also fantastic- we had initially booked a Saturday 2pm lesson but due to high tide, there were no waves to ride so they rebooked us to the next day at 10am to ensure a good experience. They also had a photographer out on the waves and took some great shots (available for separate purchase), which I appreciated as I was unable to take pictures from the beach given how far out they were. The picture process was also easy - I received an email the evening of the lesson, was able to preview some images, and once the payment processed, I received a link and downloaded the images with a few clicks. I appreciate how easy the process was!
Response from the operator: Aloha! Thank you so much for the detailed and kind review! We’re thrilled to hear your son had a great experience surfing with Tommy—he’s a fantastic instructor and always goes the extra mile to support and encourage our young surfers. We’re glad he was able to respond quickly and take care of your son when he needed a break and some first aid. Safety and comfort are always top priorities for us! We also appreciate your understanding regarding the reschedule. We always aim to provide the best possible experience, and sometimes that means adjusting for conditions—mahalo for your flexibility! We're so happy you enjoyed the photo service too! It’s great to hear the process was smooth and the images helped you capture those special moments out on the waves. We hope to see you and your son back in the water with us again soon. Until then—warmest aloha and happy surfing! 🌊🌴🏄♂️

Surfing at Waikiki
Great day with Gone Surfing. Took a private lesson and have nothing but positive things to report. My coach, Lindsey, worked very hard to ensure my success. She is one of the most concientious surf coaches I have ever had. Bonus... Gone Surfing arranged a photographer take pictures!
Response from the operator: Aloha! Mahalo for the kind words and for surfing with us! We're so happy to hear you had a great day out on the water and that your private lesson was a success. Lindsey will be thrilled to know her dedication made such a positive impact—she truly puts her heart into helping every guest feel confident and supported out there. We’re lucky to have her on our team! And we’re glad you enjoyed the bonus of having a photographer capture the action—it’s always awesome to take those memories home. Hope to see you back in the lineup soon. Until then, aloha and happy waves! 🌊🏄♂️

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oahu.
How much does 1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu cost?
+
Prices start at $205 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oahu usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does 1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oahu is not rushed.
Is 1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 59 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oahu, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule 1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is 1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book 1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu?
+
Around 21 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oahu can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oahu and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does 1.5-Hour Private Surfing Lesson in Honolulu start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oahu within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oahu?
+
On Outty we rank every Oahu experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Oahu: Full or Half Day Grand Circle Island Tour, Oahu Small-Group Circle Island Tour with Turtle Snorkeling, Pearl Harbor Remembered Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oahu?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oahu?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
