Sleigh Rides with the tired Horses needs banning,it’s cruel!!!

We booked this trip as the sleigh ride looked like a wonderful winter wonderland sleigh ride through the National park So we arrived with our driver booked through Krakow direct,we were greeted by a lovely polish couple with thier beautiful polish costumes and warm welcomes,we then enjoyed the music and dancing along with Polish food and warm tea which was all very yummy and entertaining, although the portaloo (toilet) is absolutely disgusting with no hand washing facilities and quite an eye opener,it was horrid with so many other paying tourists needing the use of this toilet 🤮 Then it was time to go on the sleigh ride, well you were squashed into a very tight sleigh with another couple we had never met before, which made it totally unpleasant your knees and lower limbs had no room and my husband and I had to place our outer legs/feet on the outside of the sleigh making it very uncomfortable,I then had the driver grunting and groaning trying to grab our legs and place them in position on the sleigh rung,he then jumped on the sleigh more a less sitting on my back squashing me even further into the seat The sleighs have very long shafts (poles) against the horses necks, making it really difficult for the horse to turn in a circle needing to turn that very heavy weight around in a tight circle of 4 adults + a stocky heavy driver, We then halted and awaited other sleighs to catch us up,the horses were puffing and blowing heavily, they had no sweat rugs placed on them which would help them cool down from that heavy pulling and heat. I couldn’t get off the sleigh quick enough after enduring this awful squashed in so called scenic route,I believe these horse sleigh rides to be cruel with these horses needing of rest water and feed after a ride, they have no break and are continuesly pulling very heavy weights of not just the sleighs but very heavy people of 4 + the heavy driver, who shows no empathy or kindness to thier horses what so ever. I’m speaking up for these horses as they have no voices or apparently feelings If this was our country in the UK they would have to have a vet continuesly vetting these horses for exhaustion and need of rest water and feed. Our own daughter is a carriage driver so we are very aware of regulations and compassion for our animals Something they lack badly for the care of their horses…

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate all comments, especially when they relate to animal welfare, which is something we take very seriously. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the traditional music, food, and hospitality provided by the local hosts. However, we are sorry that certain aspects of the experience did not meet your expectations. Regarding the sleigh ride and the horses, we would like to clarify that the horses used for this activity are regularly monitored and cared for by their owners, who are licensed local highlanders with long family traditions in horse handling. The animals are accustomed to this type of work in winter conditions, and their working hours are regulated. They are provided with rest periods, water, food, and proper veterinary supervision in accordance with local regulations. The route is relatively short and specifically designed to avoid overexertion of the horses. What may appear as heavy breathing is often normal for horses working in cold winter air, especially after movement. We understand that seating in traditional wooden sleighs can feel tight, as they are built in an authentic regional style and shared between participants. We apologize if this caused discomfort during your ride. Your comments regarding the toilet facilities have been noted, and we will pass this feedback on to the local organizers to review possible improvements. We respect your perspective and thank you for sharing it. At the same time, we would like to assure future guests that animal welfare and safety are priorities for both us and our local partners.

    Great activity!

The sleigh ride is done at night without lighting in the Tatras Convivial and pleasant moment, a torch is given to us at the start of the walk This followed by a meal by the fire, typical in the Polish atmosphere: great time!! A group of Polish singers accompanied us to add some entertainment. We were able to taste the specialties of the country and share a pleasant moment with other travelers.

Response from the operator: Merci beaucoup pour votre retour enthousiaste!

    Wouldn't bother

This was terrible, it felt like cattle being herded. It was dark and there was very little snow and we were all squashed into the carriages. We went along in a line then turned around and came back. Nothing unique about this at all.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your review and for choosing our company. We're truly sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. As you are probably aware, we unfortunately do not have control over the weather conditions, including the amount of snow. We strive to provide the best possible experience regardless of these external factors and appreciate your understanding.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Krakow.

How much does Zakopane Sleigh Ride in Tatra Mountains cost?

    +

Prices start at $123 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Krakow usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Zakopane Sleigh Ride in Tatra Mountains take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Krakow is not rushed.

Is Zakopane Sleigh Ride in Tatra Mountains worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 38 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Krakow, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Zakopane Sleigh Ride in Tatra Mountains?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Zakopane Sleigh Ride in Tatra Mountains suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Zakopane Sleigh Ride in Tatra Mountains?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Krakow can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Krakow and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Zakopane Sleigh Ride in Tatra Mountains start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Krakow within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Krakow?

    +

On Outty we rank every Krakow experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Complete Cracow Bike Tour (small group of maximum 15 people!), Krakow–Zakopane: Cable Car, Chocholow Baths, Cheese & Vodka, Krakow: Zakopane & Hot Springs Tour with Cable Car (Hotel Pickup). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Krakow?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Krakow?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
