Southern City Square
An alun-alun (Javanese, correctly hyphenated but occurs occasionally without hyphen; also found as aloen-aloen, aloon aloon, and erroneously alon-alon) is a large, central, open lawn square common to villages, towns and cities in Indonesia. Commonly, alun-alun in modern-day Indonesia refers only to the two large open squares of kraton palace compounds. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the famous Alun-alun Kidul: the city's central square. The guide narrates fascinating stories related to the square's cultural and mystical significance as visitors try out traditional games and enjoy the street performers.

A Night to Remember
As a female traveling solo, first time in Indonesia, I was a little nervous about exploring Yogyakarta alone at night. Krisma was the perfect guide and companion for this night tour through Malioboro and various night market areas. She was the guardian with "magic hands" who got us across busy streets, the smart shopper who pointed out the best place to buy batiks, and a fearless co-explorer, curious, bold, and full of knowledge. I will remember not only the precise aroma of that blend of herbs in the crunchy peanut snack, but the conversations we had along the way about travels and cultures and the big wide world we are part of. Krisma reminds me of why we travel - to experience the world through others' eyes. I am so grateful for this experience with her.
Response from the operator: We're truly grateful for your kind words and thrilled to have been part of your first solo journey in Indonesia. Krisma's dedication to ensuring your safety and enjoyment underscores our commitment to personalized and immersive travel experiences. Your appreciation for her guidance and the cultural exchange exemplifies the essence of travel. We eagerly await the opportunity to welcome you back for further exploration with Journeast Indonesia.

Our guide Krisma was so friendly, funny and nice and took us all around the downtown area of Yogyakarta sampling all different sweets and was nice enough to help pick us out traditional betir attire. She went above and beyond and was very knowledgeable and was great spending time learning about the city and its rich history. 5/5!

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Yogyakarta.
How much does Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $10 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Yogyakarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Yogyakarta is not rushed.
Is Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Yogyakarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Yogyakarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Yogyakarta and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Yogyakarta: Culinary and Heritage Guided Walking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Yogyakarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Yogyakarta?
+
On Outty we rank every Yogyakarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Yogyakarta Private Car Hire with Driver, From Surabaya / Malang : Mt Bromo Sunrise - Ijen Blue Fire 2D1N, Borobudur Full Climb Up And Prambanan ALL INCLUSIVE PRIVATE Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Yogyakarta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Yogyakarta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
