Felt Like Exploring with a Friend
Marisol was an excellent tour guide—her communication, engagement, and check-ins made us feel comfortable and welcomed from the start. She is incredibly knowledgeable about Xochimilco, and because it’s her hometown, you could truly sense the pride she has in sharing her culture and history with us. That passion made every story and explanation feel authentic and meaningful. She gave us experiences that were both amazing and unique, taking us beyond the typical tourist spots and into hidden corners that felt genuinely special. It was refreshing to see Xochimilco through the eyes of someone who grew up there, and the “off the beaten path” touches made the day unforgettable. Marisol not only guided us, but also created a connection—she made sure we were engaged, comfortable, and immersed in the experience. If you’re looking for a tour that combines professionalism, local expertise, and genuine hospitality, I highly recommend booking with her. What made the experience stand out was the balance between the must-see highlights and the unique, off-the-beaten-path stops we would have never discovered on our own. Each stop felt intentional, not rushed, and she added meaningful context that brought everything to life. She made us feel at ease, encouraged questions, and created a fun, welcoming atmosphere. We came away with not just beautiful memories but also a deeper appreciation of the town and its people. Marisol made the tour feel less like a transaction and more like spending the day with a passionate local friend. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an authentic, memorable experience.
Response from the operator: It’s wonderful to hear Marisol made your experience in Xochimilco so meaningful — her passion, local knowledge, and warm hospitality clearly turned the day into something truly special, with a perfect balance of highlights and hidden gems. Thank you for such a heartfelt recommendation!

Never materialized
I had never booked any experiences through Tripadvisor, this was the first (and would have to think twice before trying it again) since the tour never materialized. I paid on the 29th of December and received an email, indicating that I would get an email with a survey and more details "shortly" to custom our PRIVATE & PERSONALIZED tour. Never heard from anybody back. Since our tour was scheduled for the 1st of January, I got concerned and tried to contact the operator and the guide the day prior, the 31st of December. Again, no reply. I finally got a communication at 10:40 am of the "day of" the tour which was scheduled for 12:00 noon. By that time, I had already made other plans and cancelled it trough my CC. Overall, it was very unfortunate and disappointing. Most of all, unprofessional. Hopefully, someone from the coordinating company reads this message and can fix this so that it doesn't happen again.

Great time
We had a great time with Roberto, he has a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding area. Roberto also pointed out an incredible seafood restaurant that we had the best meal during our stay.
Response from the operator: Hello 1AlanP Great to hear Roberto not only gave you a great Xochimilso experience, but also helped your taste buds get the best seafood in Mexico City. It's lovely to hear he shared his knowledge and passion for the city and floating gardens with you. We hope to host you again, in not in Mexico City, then in any of our 60 cities worldwide. Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.
How much does Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom cost?
+
Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.
Is Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Xochimilco Floating Gardens Tour with a Local: Private & Custom start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?
+
On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Mexico City Historical Centre Food Tour with 7 Tastings & Drinks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
