At Somnathpur you will find one of the most perfectly preserved temples in India. The 13th century Chennakesava temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Hoysala dynasty on a star shaped platform, its exterior covered entirely in carved sculpture. Every dancer on the walls has her nose cut off. Your guide will unravel that mystery. At Talakadu you will find something completely different. This was once a thriving town of 30 temples until a queen cursed it in the 17th century and the sand dunes buried everything. Five temples have since been excavated from the sand. One has a lingam said to change colour through the day from red to black to white. A bullock cart ride takes you between the temples through the dunes. Two extraordinary sites. One private car from Bangalore. An expert cultural guide throughout. All entry fees are included.

    2. Keerthi Narayana Temple

Next, we will visit Keertinarayana temple, built using black granite and bricks, and a splendid example of Hoysala style of architecture. This was built to commemorate the victory of King Vishnuvardhan over the Cholas. The highlight of this temple is the 2-meter tall main deity of the Lord.

Hotel pick up will be at 730 am and we will head towards Talakadu, located 130km from Bangalore. The journey will take 3 hours. Talakadu used to be a flourishing town with more than 30 temples during ancient times. The legendary Queen’s curse buried the entire town with sand dunes. We will visit Vaidyanatheswara temple, one of the 5 temples excavated from the sands. Over the next 2 hours, we will explore this granite structure built in the 14th century by Chola Kings and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Exciting Day Trip from Bengaluru

I had a great trip with Mohan to visit these temples and also make a quick stop along the Cauvery river. The temples are historic and the guides provided great information about the design and religious significance. This is a nice day trip out of Bengaluru and I'd recommend to any history lover. Mohan was able to provide information based on my interests and make the tour extra special.

World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bangalore.

How much does World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery cost?

    +

Prices start at $135 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bangalore usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bangalore is not rushed.

Is World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 77 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 80 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bangalore, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery?

    +

Around 28 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bangalore can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bangalore and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does World heritage Somnathpur sculptures and Talakadu temple mystery start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bangalore within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Bangalore?

    +

On Outty we rank every Bangalore experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bangalore city tour with English guide & multi language support, Mysore tour from Bangalore by tourism ministry approved company, Bangalore Through the Ages: Lalbagh, Temple & Market City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Bangalore?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Bangalore?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
