    What you'll see and do

    1. Mandusevac Fountain

According to legend, a weary soldier and a kind girl named Manda gave Zagreb its name. This centuries-old spring reminds us how stories, not just stones, shape cities.

      15 minutes here

    2. Cathedral of Zagreb

Towering over Kaptol, the Cathedral is both a spiritual and historical symbol. You’ll hear of life on the Bishop’s Court, Ottoman invasions, restorations, and the power this sacred place held over the city’s fate.

      15 minutes here

    3. Dolac Market

Zagreb’s bustling open-air market is where fresh produce and lively chatter fill the air, but beneath it lies a deeper rhythm of tradition, community, and power.

      15 minutes here

    4. Krvavi Most

No blood today, no bridge either, but the street named "Bloody Bridge" still holds plenty of old drama. Once the scene of fierce clashes between Kaptol clergy and Gradec citizens, this narrow street still whispers of rivalries long buried.

      15 minutes here

    5. The only surviving gate into medieval Gradec. A fire, a painting, and a miracle transformed this archway into a sanctuary. Locals still stop to light candles and murmur wishes into the bricks.

      15 minutes here

    6. One of the oldest pharmacies in Zagreb and a place tied to the city’s darker chapters: herbal lore, folk medicine, and whispered tales of witches.

      15 minutes here

    7. St. Mark's Church

With its colourful tiled roof, St. Mark’s is more than a photo spot. Learn about the city’s political heart, secret meetings, and the women who watched history unfold from the shadows.

      15 minutes here

    8. Lotrscak Tower

Each day at noon, this tower fires a cannon. But what else echoes through its stone? Hear about the ghosts said to roam here, and how sound was once used to unite a city. Note: If you’d like to experience the famous cannon shot, make sure to book the morning tour.

      15 minutes here

    9. This elegant palace once echoed with secrets of Zagreb's nobility. At Zrinski Palace, you’ll hear tales of aristocratic scandals, forbidden romances, and the unspoken rules of high society that often clashed with passion.

      10 minutes here

    10. Croatian History Museum (Hrvatski Povijesni Muzej)

The Vojković-Oršić-Kulmer-Rauch Palace (today: Croatian History Museum) tells the story of a nobleman who rose through society by marrying well — a true tale that later inspired the famous Witch of Grič novels. Power, ambition, and fiction intertwine behind its grand façade.

      10 minutes here

    11. Here was the city’s first public theatre with a real stage and balcony boxes. It was here that Zagreb’s cultural identity took its bow, in front of candlelight and curious eyes.

      10 minutes here

    12. The oldest tavern still operating in Zagreb, a cozy nook that has seen poets, rebels, and everyday people gather under its creaky beams for over a century.

      15 minutes here

    13. Radiceva

The tour concludes in this charming street close to the city center, making it easy to continue exploring. Optionally, visit the nearby House of Spirits for a tasting experience that lingers on the tongue — just like our stories.

    Unique and wonderful!

This tour combined the history of Zagreb with the stories of famous Croatian writer Marija Juric Zagorka. Marija was back from the dead as our “guide”. Beautifully done from start to finish! Highly recommended!!!

More Than Just a Walking Tour

This tour was a fantastic way to experience Zagreb’s Upper Town. Our costumed guide Đurđica made history and legends come alive with engaging storytelling about witches, nobles, and hidden secrets of the city. It felt immersive, fun, and full of atmosphere. This is perfect for anyone who loves culture, history, or simply wants more than a standard sightseeing checklist. I also recommend ending the evening with the optional tasting at the House of Spirits, it was a fun a way to close the experience.

    Local tour in Zagreb

As a slovenian couple we weren't sure what to expect. Slovenia and Croatia have similar culture and history, but some things are different. However, our fears were unfounded. A walk through Zagreb was relaxing and engaging. Tour guide gave a ton of stories about experiences and situations of quite known historical figures. Some were not known to us, but we quickly learned about them. Guide also read and acted out scenes which was marvelous!! At the very end, she organized refreshment and chatted with all of us. Loved every second of it!!

    ⭐️ A Captivating Journey Through Zagreb’s Mystical Past – Unforgettable ⭐️

I can’t recommend this tour highly enough! From the very first moment, we were swept into the heart of Zagreb's most fascinating and mysterious stories, brought vividly to life by our incredible guide, who was not only in full historical costume but truly became a storyteller from the past. Her energy, passion, and knowledge were absolutely infectious that we hung to every word. She was so engaging and made every stop feel like a personal experience. It was clear that she loved sharing the history and legends of Zagreb, and her enthusiasm made the entire tour feel magical! To top it all off, the visit to the House of Spirits at the end was the perfect way to wrap up — the tasting was delicious, and the atmosphere was the ideal finish to such a memorable journey.

Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Zagreb.

How much does Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales cost?

    +

Prices start at $41 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Zagreb usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Zagreb is not rushed.

Is Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Zagreb, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Zagreb can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Zagreb and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Witches & Whispers: Zagreb’s Upper Town Tales start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Zagreb within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Zagreb?

    +

On Outty we rank every Zagreb experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communism & Croatian Homeland War Tour, Zagreb Highlights: Old Town, WWII tunnels, Funicular & Tastings, Old Zagreb Private Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Zagreb?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Zagreb?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
