Phenomenal
We arrived in melbourne on the Norwegian Spirit. We were overnighting in Melbourne and hire great private tours for both days. Our first day was a Melbourne city tour. Including Brighton, bathing boxes, city tour. The cathedral, one of the arcades, and then we proceeded out to philip island. At philip island we were treated to penguin priority seating and watch the penguin parade An amazing feat of nature. A must do if you are in the melbourne area! The next day we proceeded out to Sovereign Hill to see the mining town an tour a ballard. I cannot express our appreciation enough for our guide Fiona. She was absolutely outstanding. Since this was a private tour, she was flexible to our needs. For example, we are an older group, and need more frequent restroom stops. She safely got us to all our locations and back to the ship. In a timely manner and also gave us a full city tours. Both days( melbourne and ballard). It's too bad that Fiona couldn't be our guide in Sydney as well. If in Melbourne book through great private tours. Ask for Fiona. Thank you Fiona for everything.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the review - it really means a lot knowing that you enjoyed the tours. Fiona is a fabulous asset to our team! We hope you enjoy the rest of your travels. Regards, Sharon

Fantastic day with Marlene — wildlife, views, and seamless planning
We booked the Wilsons Promontory & Penguin Parade – Private Tour with Great Private Tours, and our guide Marlene made it one of the best days of our Australia trip. From the start, Marlene set a great tone with a stop for excellent coffee/tea and a bite to eat. She also arranged an outstanding picnic lunch that we enjoyed at a pretty park with picnic tables—simple, fresh, and perfect for the setting. Throughout the day she offered lots of options to customize our time, including a broad range of dinner choices (from high-end to casual—we chose casual to maximize time at the sights). It’s a full-day tour with plenty of driving, and Marlene checked in on whether we preferred quiet time to relax or conversation. We opted for conversation, and she was a wealth of knowledge on Australian history, local stories, and the places we visited. Even better, she has a remarkable eye for wildlife: we saw a koala awake and feeding (and got great photos), plus kangaroos, wallabies, and numerous birds. She could identify trees, plants, and birds by their calls, which added so much depth to the experience. To cap it off, the tour included preferred viewing at the Penguin Parade. We had fantastic views of the adorable little penguins as they came ashore and made their way to their burrows—an unforgettable end to the day. Everything felt smooth, unhurried, and tailored to us. We highly recommend Marlene and Great Private Tours—professional, friendly, and outstanding at crafting a day you’ll remember.
Response from the operator: Thanks for the glowing review, Andrew! We are thrilled to hear you had such an enjoyable day out touring Wilson's Prom and Phillip Island with Marlene.

What an adventure
What an amazing experience, beyond expectations, wonderful scenery, penguins fantastic and Steve was a wonderful guide, highly recommended trip. The bush walk through the rain forest was serene and beautiful, very walkable and Steve is an expert on the Prom, he brings the trip alive. His knowledge about the area made the trip meaningful. The penguin visit was equally a highlight, don’t miss the chance to see penguins close up. All in all this tour was the highlight of our trip.

Why this scores 55
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Melbourne.
How much does Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $878 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Melbourne usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour take?
+
Plan for about 12.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Melbourne is not rushed.
Is Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Melbourne, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Melbourne can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Melbourne and add a light layer if any part of the 12.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Wilson's Promontory & Phillip Island - 'Prom & Penguins' Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Melbourne within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Melbourne?
+
On Outty we rank every Melbourne experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Melbourne: Yarra Valley Wine, Gin, Whisky and Chocolate Tour, Yarra Valley Wine Tour w Exclusive Gin, Cider & Chocolate Tasting, Yarra Valley Wine Tour from Melbourne - Choc, Gin & Good Times. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Melbourne?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Melbourne?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
