The best way to visit the wall

Awesome day with our guide Blanco, taking us for a unique experience going on a beautiful and authentic part of the wall (not rebuilt, no tourists). We only saw 1 hiker during the whole day. Very well organised. Highly recommended

Super Fun Wild Great Wall Hike

I booked the Wild Great Wall Hike with Our_Beijing and had a fantastic experience. Dom was great and answered any questions I had. He came prepared with extra water, coffee, and snacks. The Great Wall Hike itself was amazing. It was remote, quiet, and definitely an adventure. Some parts were a little steep, but I found the challenge quite fun. We had perfect weather the day I went. It wasn't too hot, and there was a fine mist around, which helped to keep us cool; however, this did create a bit of mud, which I didn't mind, but I know some people might. I was travelling by myself, and Dom was kind enough to snap a few photos of me, for which I am grateful. Overall, I had a fabulous time, and I would recommend this to anyone who loves to get outside and get their hands a little dirty. You won't regret it.

    Fantastic experience!

We completed a hike on the Great Wall, planned and led by our guide. It was a great experience. The hike was a few hours long and moderate difficulty due to some steep sections of the wall. For the care and planning involved it was excellent value for money as well. It was a small group which meant we could walk at a suitable pace for everyone and it was a friendly atmosphere with plenty of time to rest, chat and take in the incredible views.

Amazing hike over the Great Chinese Wall

Really amazing experience to able to visit the Great Chinese wall from a non tourist part of it. A part that nature took over with all its greenery. Dominic was very friendly and told us a little about the history during the hike. I could tell he is very passionate about his job. He took along his sweet dog Breezy which I personally loved! After the hike we went to a coffee spot which was truly a hidden gem. I could definitely recommend this tour with Dominic!

An Unforgettable Adventure on the Wild Great Wall – Truly Breathtaking!

Our hike along the Huanghua Wild Great Wall was extraordinary. If you're looking for an authentic, crowd-free experience of the Great Wall, far from the usual tourist hotspots, this is the one to book! Shao, our guide, was great– warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the natural beauty of the area. His skill helped us (two beginning hikers and our 11-year old son) to navigate a few tricky spots along the way. He took stops as needed and clearly knows the area like the back of his hand. The hike was an invigorating mix of challenge and serenity, with panoramic views that were breathtaking. We climbed unrestored sections of the Wall that wove through forested hills, giving us a real sense of the Wall’s scale. During over 3 hours of hiking we had the entire Wall to ourselves. Shao made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable, pacing the hike to match our needs. We left with incredible photos, tired legs, and a deep appreciation for the Great Wall – not just as a monument, but as a living piece of history. Highly recommended for adventurous travelers who want to experience the Wall in an unfiltered and unforgettable way. Easily one of the highlights of our trip to China!

Wild Great Wall Hikes: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Wild Great Wall Hikes cost?

    +

Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wild Great Wall Hikes take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Wild Great Wall Hikes worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wild Great Wall Hikes?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wild Great Wall Hikes suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wild Great Wall Hikes?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wild Great Wall Hikes start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
