Amazing experience and wonderful guide
This is not your everyday cave tour. This is a true adventure. We (70 yr old couple) took two granddaughters (10&11) on this trip. Wes was amazing and spend over 4 hours with us on the is tour. We shimmied through tight crevices, trekked across precipices, scooted through flowing streams. We are all under 200lb and there were a few times we had to do contortions to get through. If you have fear of heights, tight spaces, water or dark this might not be for you. But if you would like a real cave in the wild experience this was amazing.

Absolutely amazing experience!
I booked this as a surprise for my girlfriend, and it was a fantastic experience all around! Wes clearly has so much passion for showing others this wonderful cave that lies in his backyard. I’m thrilled, and honestly surprised, that someone offers an experience like this to the general public. Every other cave tour we’ve been on has been mostly upright and mostly relaxing. This, however, was a genuine challenge, and as someone who normally avoids tight spaces and has read a bit too many underground horror stories, it certainly got me out of my comfort zone. That said, never did we feel forced to do something we weren’t comfortable with, and never did we feel unsafe. Wes was lightly encouraging of us to push ourselves, but he clearly cares about ensuring everyone feels safe. There were several tight tunnels/passageways that I never would have expected myself to willingly try to fit through. But trying and succeeding was a rewarding experience. The group we ended up with was just as adventurous as my girlfriend and I, and it made everything more enjoyable. Wes was even kind enough to take us to a waterfall that he doesn’t normally take groups to - it can add some time to the overall tour, and it involves a somewhat long crawl to get to, but it was so worth it, and we all turned our lights off on the way back to experience 100% darkness. My girlfriend absolutely loved this as her surprise, and we spent the entire drive home talking about how much of an amazing experience it was. Wes documented the entire thing by taking tons of pictures and videos which he shared with us almost immediately. My body’s a bit sore and bruised today, but this experience was so worth it. Some things to know: - Wear clothes you don’t mind getting incredibly dirty, and shoes you don’t care about. Long sleeves and pants are recommended. The water in the cave can be a bit chilly, and you will spend some time on your knees and elbows - Wear shoes with grip. I stupidly wore shoes with no treads. I was slipping, and they started to fall apart - This can be challenging! I’m in my late 20s, but I was tired by the end, and I’m sore the day after - Bring a change of clothes and shoes. Wes has a couple showers on site. He had towels and trash bags for dirty clothes, but I’d bring some just in case

We never went on the tour. I did get a refund but it was a birthday surprise for my boyfriend so it really messed things up. I’m sure the tour itself would have been fun but again we didn’t get to experience it. I wouldn't suggest booking on important dates
Response from the operator: I am so very sorry this happened to you. Booking through a third party like this unfortunately can have issues with calender notifications and bookings. Send an email direct for half off your trip and an upgrade if you want to try again!

Awesome spelunking tour
We had an amazing time hanging out with Wes. He’s very knowledgeable about the cave and its history. I was blown away at how he’s helping preserve and restore the cave. We had a little bit of everything to see in the cave, from fossils, geological formations, waterfalls, river, and of course fun tight spaces to test your limits. Wes knows the cave inside and out and we never felt unsafe. Our group had a child and his mom, and some new spelunkers. Everyone was able to make it through and we all had a great time. 100% recommend and very much want to do this again in the future.

Nothing else like this!
Fantastic experience! Honestly a once in a lifetime chance to experience serious wild caving. Sims was fantastic and kept us all safe and fabulously entertained.

Why this scores 71
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Wild Cave Adventure Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Birmingham.
How much does Wild Cave Adventure Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $125 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Birmingham usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Wild Cave Adventure Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Birmingham is not rushed.
Is Wild Cave Adventure Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 48 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Birmingham, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Wild Cave Adventure Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Wild Cave Adventure Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Wild Cave Adventure Tour?
+
Around 17 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Birmingham can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Birmingham and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Wild Cave Adventure Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Birmingham within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Birmingham?
+
Birmingham, AL packs its best experiences into walkable neighborhoods, local food, and day trips nearby. Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Birmingham by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Birmingham experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Birmingham Civil Rights Tour- Riding & Walking, Birmingham Escape Game at The Summit, Birmingham Civil Rights Walk of Freedom Smartphone Audio App Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Birmingham?
+
Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Birmingham, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Birmingham?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
