25th Wedding Anniversary
White water rafting was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Costa Rica, and I honestly can’t imagine a better experience than the one we had. Our guide, Velo, was exceptional. From the moment we launched onto the river, he made us feel completely safe while somehow making every rapid even more exciting. His confidence, knowledge, and sense of humor made the entire adventure unforgettable. Moe was incredible as well, and together they created an experience we’ll be talking about for years. There was something almost magical about rafting through the rainforest while a gentle rain fell around us. The rain didn’t take away from the experience—it made it even more beautiful. The jungle came alive around us, with towering trees, lush vegetation, and breathtaking scenery in every direction. It felt like we were floating through a world untouched by time. The rapids were the perfect mix of adrenaline and fun, but what made the trip so special was how safe and well taken care of we felt the entire time. We were able to laugh, soak in the incredible surroundings, and enjoy every moment because we knew we were in the best hands. If you’re visiting Costa Rica, don’t miss this adventure. Thank you, Velo and Moe, for giving us an experience we’ll never forget. You didn’t just take us rafting—you gave us memories that will last a lifetime. Pura Vida!

Amazing!
Did a trip down the Sarapiqui with my husband and 2 sons (8&12) and it was incredible! Bryan was our guide and he was AMAZING! Calmed my momma heart and I felt as if he knew I needed that reassure he’d take care of us. The water was great, everybody had a blast and on the calm runs between the rapids we saw our first sloth, macaws, numerous raptors and a rainbow billed toucan. Bryan gave us a history lesson on the area and had extensive knowledge on the wildlife. Highly recommend!!

Enlightened guides amazing experience!
My family and I went with a school trip all over Costa Rica adventuring with Johnny and his crew as our guides- from white water to night jungle excursions, learning indigenous pottery to releasing hatching sea turtles, it was a tremendous experience for all! Johnny and his guides held a safe place for us to try new adventures! I am so grateful to Flow trips!

White water rafting and River Float
We had an amazing experience with this company. They were very accommodating to our family. They suggested our youngest 2 did a river tour due to the rapids being a bit hard for them so we split up and had a blast! Abel and Mau were EXCELLENT. Abel was compassionate and taught my younger boys what do and had them move to the front for the final rapids. Bryan was excellent with the younger boys. They even saw a Caimen! It was a leisurely float while watching for wildlife. We would definitely recommend this company and were pleased with the pictures at the end. Oh Abel even taught the boys how to plant a pineapple and Mau caught fish.

Why this scores 74
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
White Water Rafting: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.
How much does White Water Rafting cost?
+
Prices start at $85 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does White Water Rafting take?
+
Plan for about 6.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.
Is White Water Rafting worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule White Water Rafting?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is White Water Rafting suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book White Water Rafting?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 6.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does White Water Rafting start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?
+
On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, White Water Rafting Class II and III, North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in La Fortuna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
