    An Unforgettable Wellington Food Tour

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this tour company and our guide. They were simply phenomenal. From the very beginning, their communication was outstanding. They reconfirmed the tour before our scheduled date, which I appreciated immensely. It seems like such a simple courtesy, yet so many tour companies overlook it. Knowing everything was confirmed ahead of time gave us confidence that we were in good hands. Our guide, Jon, was exceptional. From the moment we met him, he was warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and incredibly well prepared. He greeted us with a printed list of his favorite local restaurants for us to keep, then walked us through the day's itinerary, explaining where we were headed, what we would see, and sharing interesting background about Wellington before we even began. Throughout the tour, Jon constantly pointed out landmarks, hidden gems, and fascinating local history that we would have otherwise missed. I especially appreciated how attentive he was to our safety, even warning us about uneven pavement and cracks in the sidewalk as we walked. It was such a thoughtful touch and showed how much he genuinely cared about his guests. The food itself was absolutely outstanding. Every stop was carefully chosen, and we loved everything we sampled. We enjoyed delicious hot drinks with scones, local desserts, incredible sandwiches, authentic fish and chips, pavlova, regional beverages, and so much more. By the end of the tour, we were absolutely stuffed! Jon even took us through a local supermarket, explaining New Zealand's food culture and introducing us to products we never would have discovered on our own. It added another unique and memorable dimension to the experience. This was far more than just a food tour...it was an introduction to Wellington through someone who clearly loves sharing his city with visitors. Jon's passion, kindness, and knowledge made this one of the absolute highlights of our time in Wellington. I would give this tour 10 stars if I could. If you're considering booking it, don't hesitate...you won't be disappointed. Come hungry, because you'll leave completely satisfied, with wonderful memories and a genuine appreciation for Wellington. Thank you, Jon, for making our visit so special!

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your lovely review. It truly means a lot to us, and we’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us.

    Not worth the money!

We were completely disappointed in the food on the tour for how expensive it was! We tried a cheese biscuit, a toasty with cream cheese and onion (which she referred to has hangover food for a college student, a miniature meat pie, chocolate with strawberries from a chocolate factory and ice cream. The drinks we had were coffee and some L&P soda. Our tour guide was nice but she focused on telling us about herself. We have been on a lot better food tours in other countries! Would not recommend this one!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations.

Wellington Walking Food Odyssey: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Wellington.

How much does Wellington Walking Food Odyssey cost?

    +

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Wellington usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wellington Walking Food Odyssey take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Wellington is not rushed.

Is Wellington Walking Food Odyssey worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 51 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Wellington, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wellington Walking Food Odyssey?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wellington Walking Food Odyssey suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wellington Walking Food Odyssey?

    +

Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Wellington can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Wellington and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wellington Walking Food Odyssey start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Wellington within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Wellington?

    +

On Outty we rank every Wellington experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Overnight Experience Tour on Kapiti Island, Discover Wellington 3 hour City Tour, Martinborough Wine and Wild Coast Tour from Wellington. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Wellington?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Wellington?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
