A great day learning about LOTR, Tolkien, and Peter Jackson while seeing many scenic sites.

We had a great time exploring the city seeing many film sites and great scenic spots throughout the city. Aaron is extremely knowledgeable on so many subjects, and lunch was delicious. This tour was a fun way to spend the day whether you’re a LOTR fanatic or just have seen the movies once, you’ll enjoy learning about the history of Tolkien, his work, and the various city film sites.

Response from the operator: Hi Amy and Family Thank you so much for joining me with your enthusiasm for the day and your passion for great beer and barbecue. Aaron

Learning has never been so much fun

Aaron was extremely knowledgeable and personable which made learning about each filming location even more exciting. The lunch break was excellent and gave us the opportunity to sample some local craft beer. The WETA workshop was the highlight of the tour and being able to see the actual props and artists from hundreds of movies and TV shows was an incredible experience. There is definitely some walking and some of it across uneven terrain but nothing a healthy adult cannot handle and will give you some unique photo opportunities. This is a must-do if you stop in Wellington and make sure to ask for Aaron.

Response from the operator: hi Josh Thank you for joining me on another Lord of the rings adventure in Wellington city. I am yet to meet anyone that would match the dwarves with their passion for a quest and craft beer until yesterday . Aaron

    Unexpected Joy

This was a last minute addition to a wonderful trip to NZ, and so much fun! It was like being a child again, just playing, dressing up and inhabiting a fantasy world brought to life by the costumes and incredible LOTR knowledge of Aaron. If you want (or need) a few hours of escape from today's world (and who doesn't), this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Response from the operator: Hi Bruce It great to step out and return to the inner child especially when the kids aren’t watching. Thanks for joining me on another unexpected journey through Wellingtons middle earth. Aaron

Great tour for any level of fans of the Hobbitt or LotR.

This tour is a MUST do for Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans. I thought my son and wife knew a lot about the books and movies, but Aaron’s knowledge is unmatched as far as I can tell. He showed us places that they shot many scenes of the movies and had large pictures so we could compare the movie pic to what we were looking at. We were even treated to a very nice lunch. Then the tour capped off with a tour of Weta studios and the Weta Cave, which I found fascinating. This is a great tour for the novice fan (me) or the fan that really loves the books and or movies (my family). Highly recommend.

Response from the operator: Shalom Clan Hasty Thank you so much for your generous review and spending time in our magical kingdom of middle Wellington. I look forward to your return in the future and if not next year in Jerusalem. Aaron Kosher tours and travel

Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Wellington.

How much does Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast cost?

    +

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Wellington usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Wellington is not rushed.

Is Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Wellington, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast?

    +

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Wellington can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Wellington and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Wellington Lord of the Rings 6-8 hour Private Tour & Feast start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Wellington within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Wellington?

    +

On Outty we rank every Wellington experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Overnight Experience Tour on Kapiti Island, Discover Wellington 3 hour City Tour, Martinborough Wine and Wild Coast Tour from Wellington. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Wellington?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Wellington?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
