What you get

    About this experience

Watching the sunrise from the top of a volcano is one of the most spectacular things you can do in your life. In Bali you can climb to the top of Mount Batur and see the other two volcanoes in a very visible way. A breathtaking landscape. But what do I need to know before climbing a volcano to watch the sunrise? Why climb a volcano to see the sunrise? Walking for a few hours in total darkness can be magical. For a moment you have no idea where you're going and you have no idea what's around you. But suddenly the light gradually reveals where you are. As if by magic you are already amazed and chilled by everything that was around you and you were not even seeing. Darkness gives way to light and then you quickly remember that sometimes in life, finding light means going through great darkness. That feeling can be a great life lesson.

    Incredible views from the top

The trek to Mount Batur was one of the most memorable experiences during our trip. The hike took around two hours but the view from the summit made it completely worth it. Watching the sunrise over the volcano and lake was beautiful. The hot springs afterward were relaxing and a great way to finish the tour.

    Great trip

The view from the top was amazing. A lot of other people up there, with a lot of noise. But it was absolutely worth it!

    Mount Batour Sunrise

I had a great experience with walking up to Mount Batur for sunrise. Our guide was Wayan Madya, who did an excellent job. As well as my driver Kadek, very nice and helpful and safe driving. Thank you!

Beautiful view at the top, Staff doesn't care much

The view from the top was gorgeous, but that was about the only pleasant thing about the trip. 1. The driver was in a hurry to get us to our first destination since we were running late when one group of guests were a no-show. He drove rather unsafely. 2. The breakfast was unremarkable - some fried bananas and coffee 3. The package comes with local guide, but when we arrived it was clear there was no guide lined up for us. We got stuck with another small group. The guide didn't look too happy taking us on. 4. Get ready to hike for 2.5-3 hrs with a long trail of people in front and behind you up the volcano with many small rocks that will make it slippery when you descend 5. Honestly and the worst part, I feel like there was very little hospitality or customer service, unlike what I experienced nearly everywhere else in Ubud. Every "staff" member we encountered did their jobs begrudgingly. It all felt like a manufacturing line. We didn't feel cared for in the least.

Response from the operator: Dear valuable guest, Regarding your sunrise trekking experience We are glad that you liked the view of the volcano. 1 - We would like to request from you an additional evidence like a video so we can futhwr investigate it since on our our cars have gps monitoring sistem and safwty is our number one priority. 2 - We sorry to not be able to offer a full hotel breakfast at the volcano summit it would be impossible to prepare it at 1.717 meter above the sea level. The simple breakfast which is offered by the local guides are prepared and served with love since the local economy are not that greate we can not push them to improve for a special customer like you and let others with a different menu. 3- Our packages do not came from local guide whatsoever so that is another question that we would lke to request you to be more clear and contsct us for futher investigation terefore all pur guides at tthe volcano are legal operating and their are members of the sunrise trekking guide community. 4 - Regarding the time for the hiking its the normal time to climb for the summit and we would like to apolosize once again for the long trail of people that you enconter at the volcsno wich is a public and holly place. We are sorry for it, in other hands all tourists are welcome to visit the Mount Batur and they came from far and every where in the word to have this experience so its out of our hands since there are many companies opperating there. We also cannot offer a private guide since only offer online shared tour at mount Batur and all our group is nl more than 8 pax since its estipulated by the Sunrise trekking guide community due safety reasons. 5 - We would like to inform that it might be a miss understand since our office are located in Ubud and we never encounter issue like you statment. So please feel free to contact us at reservas@onmywaytobali.com to send us more details about your experience so we can futher investigate it. We would like to offer you a conpletelly tour experience at the volcano in near future. Best regards Rodrigo Kirchner

    Sunrise trekking was amazing!

As a solo traveler it was so easy booking online with sunrise trekking. The communication between the tour company, my drivers and the guide was impeccable. I loved the start of the tour when we ate fried bananas and coffee. I was able to meet the others on my tour group and we had the most amazing time together. Worth it!

Is Watch the sunrise from the top of Mount Batur volcano worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ubud, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

    +

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ubud can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ubud and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Ubud?

    +

On Outty we rank every Ubud experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mount Batur Jeep Adventure, Best of Ubud Full-Day Tour with Jungle Swing, Full-Day Tour to Water Temples and UNESCO Rice Terraces in Bali. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ubud?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ubud?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
