An air-conditioned van is used for transportation between Budapest and the Bear Sanctuary, the ride is one hour each way. The guide will give you all the information about the bears and wolves and depending on luck you will see such moves by the animals you can see only in Natural Geography films. The bears were saved from circuses and now they live happily in a huge territory we will walk around the area. The bears and wolves are living their natural way of life we are just observing them so you might see bears playing in a lake, climbing trees, or simply wrestling. Some bears are born here so sometimes you see cubs with their mom when bears are small they are in a separate area. This absolute freedom makes these wild animals happy and that is why this place is so unique.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Veresegyhaz

We will visit a Bear and Wolf Sanctuary, where you will see brown bears and wolves living together in a huge territory. These bears were saved from circuses from different countries and now they are enjoying their normal way of life in the sanctuary. There are lakes and forest in sanctuary so if we are lucky we can see them playing in the lake in warm weather. We will walk around the area your guide will give you all the information so you will be an expert regarding the bears at the end of the tour. The sanctuary and the visitors are separated by a special fence but the animals are curious so they will come close to the fence. The sanctuary is supported by many animal protection organizations. The place is owned by the local government and it serves educational purposes too to see the way of life of these predators. It is absolutely safe for visitors, and very popular with Hungarians but as it is far from the city(45 km, about 28 miles) from the city most foreign visitors miss it.

    nice excursion

Nice trip to the countryside to the zoo. Competent, friendly guide. Everything was fine. The "animal welfare regulations" in Hungary gave us food for thought: all visitors throw fruit brought to the animals over the fence. Animals are correspondingly overfed. Some animals in VERY tight enclosures etc.

Just amazing and worth the experience

The tour guide is amazing. He brought fruit for us to feed the animals and gave us a tour of the facility. Also showed how to feed the bears. It was an amazing time. My wife loves animals and she would live there lol. Thank You for such a great experience. It was worth the price by far.

Visiting a Bear and Wolf Sanctuary: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Budapest.

How much does Visiting a Bear and Wolf Sanctuary cost?

How long does Visiting a Bear and Wolf Sanctuary take?

    +

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Budapest is not rushed.

Is Visiting a Bear and Wolf Sanctuary worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Budapest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

    +

How far in advance should I book Visiting a Bear and Wolf Sanctuary?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Budapest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Budapest and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Budapest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Budapest?

    +

On Outty we rank every Budapest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Budapest Ruin Pub Crawl +6 Shots +VIP Entries +Drinking Games, Budapest City Landmarks Walking Tour in 2 Hours, Countryside Half-day Gastro-Wine Tour from Budapest Meal & pickup. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Budapest?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Budapest?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
