Las Damas Street was the first street in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and America. Located in the Colonial City, it owes its name to the fact that at the beginning of the colony the ladies walked along that street, which, currently, is decorated with colonial tiles. This street has attractive Ozama Fortress, La Real Audiencia, the house of Don Rodrigo de Bastidas (today children's museum "Trampoline"), colonial houses (some with colonial shields) and finally Plaza España. The building was one of the last buildings built by the Spaniards on Dominican soil. It is not known with certainty the date of the beginning of its construction but some historians suppose that it was between the years 1714 and 1755 and is attributed to Jerome Quezada and Garçon. It originally served as a church of the order of the Jesuits. Here the Jesuit priests gave Mass with their backs to the congregation so that all, including the priests, would be facing the figure of Jesus Christ and the altar. The excursion was ok....
The excursion was ok. They seemed more interested in selling us stuff than teaching the history of the country. Los tres ojos is very interesting but we got rushed through it and didn't even get to experience the whole park as we needed to be rushed to the gift shop. It was a long bus ride to see a limited amount of historical sites.

To avoid
Very disappointed with this excursion. Complicated transport, with pick-up outside the resort in a bus and van traffic jam (it was borderline dangerous) where finding the right vehicle was in itself an adventure. Stop at a gas station to be transferred to another bus (out of age, which is good for rum but a little less for a vehicle). After embarking the guide on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, stop briefly at Columbus Lighthouse and then in front of the Presidential Palace. Get off the bus along the Malecon to go to lunch in a restaurant not corresponding, unless mistaken, to the one mentioned in the description. At most a canteen, where the water was paid for (which is annoying for an excursion mentioning that drinks were included), the toilet without locks (and also paper) and where all the family members who consumed ice were sick.... Tour of the historic district with comments in English and Spanish, the guide speaking only a few words of French while it was well mentioned that the tour was also in French.(Too) long stop in an expensive souvenir shop and without interest, without possibility for those who were not interested to stroll a little more in the neighborhood during that time. To finish the day, visit the caves of 3 Eyes National Park, leaving us barely time to go buy drinks since nothing was offered to us all day, not even water. After making his tip tour, the guide left the bus at the exit of Santo Domingo without even a word. And finally, another change of vehicle on the way back, we were, after long palavers between drivers because nothing seemed to stall, directed to a vehicle without even a word from the first driver on our descent, with the feeling of being cattle just good to pay. Contacted by me before publishing this message, the organizing agency did not deign to reply.
