About this experience

This is an interesting tour as it takes travelers to the most historic places in Cape Town. Cape Town is a world class city which has a rich history, beautiful beaches and amazing people. One of the best ways to learn about all this is a visit to Robben Island Prison Museum which used to be Nelson Mandela prison for 18 years. Travelers learn a lot of the social ills of the previous regime of apartheid and how South Africans are coping with co-existence. A visit to the townships is very informative as you get to see and experience first hand life in the formerly disadvantaged communities. As a traveler you also are able to evaluate how far the government has gone in providing its promises pre-independence. Travelers also have a great opportunity to interact with the locals especially in Bo-Kaap and Langa. This tour gives travelers a true picture of the current socio-economic situation in South Africa rather than returning home after a visit to the city.

Robben Island

The bus ride and guide were great. We had a very large group, and our guide at the prison didn’t have a microphone so we were unable to hear or see anything It felt very rushed

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re happy to hear you enjoyed the bus ride and your guide. We’re sorry to hear that the Robben Island prison tour felt rushed and that it was difficult to hear the guide in such a large group. While the on-site guiding is managed directly by the Robben Island team, we’ll be sure to pass along your feedback to them so they’re aware of the challenges you experienced. We really appreciate your input it helps us work with our partners to improve future tours for all our guests.

Hard living conditions at Robben Island

This is a great tour as it provided us with the history of South Africa intertwined with the government of Apartheid's evil regime. It was totally inhuman for the apartheid regime to treat natives of the country in such a way. This tour is well arranged since it is well complimented by a tour of the township known as Langa where we were given an opportunity to interact with the locals. We also visited some of the Hostels which were built for male workers coming from the Eastern cape since time immemorial. Thanks to Zamile the local guide who is well schooled in the local history. Highly recommended.

Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cape Town.

How much does Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket cost?

+

Prices start at $2500 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cape Town usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cape Town is not rushed.

Is Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cape Town, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cape Town can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cape Town and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Visit Robben Island Museum Langa Township Tour Inc Ferry Ticket start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cape Town within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cape Town?

+

On Outty we rank every Cape Town experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Penguins Day Tour from Cape Town, Table Mountain, Boulders Penguins and Cape point Day Tour, Wine Tour: Paarl, Franschhoek & Stellenbosch incl 3 wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cape Town?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cape Town?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
