Expensive Tour
This experience in my view was overpriced. $874.98 Australian Dollars (2 person) says free pick up and transport to sites. Ticket costs into both sites 19 (Pompeii) and 16 euros (Herculaneum) total 35 euros included in the ticket so $62.25 Australian Dollars The trip was advertised from 8.00am pick up our driver picked us up at 9.20am from Salerno where the trip was advertised from. M husband and I were the only passengers nice clean vehicle polite driver limited English. We were dropped off met by another guide who when I asked about the Herculaneum experience he knew nothing about! And said so. Our driver arranged to meet us at the drop off point after the tour two hours in Pompeii. We were then escorted by the tour operator who met us to the waiting area. We finally departed the area at 10.30am with a lady guide for the Pompeii experience. The lady gave us the ear pieces for the commentary. It was difficult at times to follow the guide she was short and had no bright color on or identification flag. The temperature was getting hot and there were lots of people / tourists groups. We finished the official tour and said other people could wander over the site in their own time - she escorted my husband and I to the exit gate We left to meet our driver. We left Pompeii for Herculaneum - the driver got lost he didn’t know where to go. My husband and I were more than 30 minutes late to Herculaneum. The driver wanted us to meet him in 40 minutes as we were late we settled on a later time to meet. The guide for Herculaneum cost another 120 Euro. This guide was excellent. Herculaneum was fabulous. When we arrived back to our pick up point after over tour the driver was not there. The tour operator rang me and had been sending me texts which I had not viewed as I was on the tour. We waited 15 minutes for the driver. The driver arrived and took us back to Salerno. This day was not great for us quite expensive in total. I’m sure there are better tours the entry costs are not big and there were no long lines ! For skip the cue. Maybe our day was lucky. This tour was very expensive I will NOT recommend it at all. We did enjoy seeing Pompeii my husband and I have studied a lot on Pompeii and felt we did see the areas of most interest. In hindsight Pompeii could be an all day visit. Herculaneum was excellent our guide was excellent and I felt the time spent there was amazing, although once again perhaps half a day here would be ideal. Overall we got to see both sites but I felt the cost far to much.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, thank you for your review. We are sorry the experience did not fully meet your expectations, although we would like to clarify a few points: the driver respected the scheduled timing for the shared tour, which may include slight variations. The guide in Herculaneum was not included in the purchased package, only the entry tickets, as clearly stated. The tour was organized carefully to allow you to visit both sites in one day, and we are pleased you still enjoyed the beauty of Pompeii and Herculaneum. We hope to welcome you again in the future to show you the best of our beautiful region. Thank you

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Salerno.
How much does Visit Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations from Salerno cost?
+
Prices start at $248 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Salerno usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Visit Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations from Salerno take?
+

Is Visit Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations from Salerno worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 55 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3/5 across 1 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Salerno, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Visit Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations from Salerno?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Visit Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations from Salerno suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Visit Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations from Salerno?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Salerno can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Salerno and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Visit Pompeii and Herculaneum Excavations from Salerno start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Salerno within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Salerno?
+
On Outty we rank every Salerno experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full-Day Amalfi Coast Experience from Sorrento, Naples or Salerno, Small-Group Amalfi Coast Day Cruise from Positano, Amalfi Coast Boat tour Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Salerno?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Salerno?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
