What you'll see and do
Ancient Rome
After the pick-up at your accommodation, the driver will take you to the Colosseum where you will meet your private guide. Known as Flavian Amphitheatre, the Colosseum is one of the capital's most remarkable monument. It is an imposing construction that, with almost 2,000 years of history, will bring you back in time to discover the way of life in the Roman Empire. During that period, the Colosseum allowed more than 50,000 people to enjoy its finest spectacles. The exhibitions of exotic animals, the execution of prisoners, the recreations of battles and gladiator fights kept Roman people entertained for years. After the Colosseum, your time travel will continue with the spectacular ruins of the Roman Forum – the hub of ancient Rome. Here's where rousing political speeches were made, criminals were sentenced, goods were traded and where angry crowds assembled. The site, originally a marshy burial ground, was first developed in the 7th century BC, growing over time to become the social, political and commercial hub of the Roman empire. Signature sights include the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Curia, the Temple of Saturn and the Arch of Titus. At the end of this first part of the tour, you will reach the Palatine Hill, the most central of seven hills of Rome. In the Palatine Hill, you can see hundreds of ruins of the imposing buildings that were created for high Roman society in ancient. For a fresh perspective on Rome and its history, there’s no better place than the Palatine!

Worst tour I’ve ever had.
This was by far the worst tour we had in Europe. Do not book this tour. So many bad things I don’t have room here for them all. The guide was not equipped to answer questions. She promised things and didn’t follow through. Our driver did driver jobs between our stops so wasn’t available to us. We couldn’t leave things in the car. I think we entered the Vatican with some crazy brokered tickets. The guide wouldn’t allow us to get audio guides. When I asked her if we could step into the shade and remarked that we are “weak” she said “yes, you are”. The lunch included in the tour was disgusting. We had no ability to order our own food. We paid a lot of money for the tour and did not get what we paid for. We did not have skip the line tickets to get inside the Colosseum despite it being promised in the viator description. The tickets for the Vatican were very shady. We had to wait for some sort of broker to arrive. Then we were told not to identify our guide as a guide inside and she kept farting away from us. Finally, we were supposed to have 8 on our tour but luckily only had 7. No way the transportation would have comfortably held 8 adults. I can’t say enough bad things about this tour.
Response from the operator: Dear Ms France Thank you for your review. Regarding your comments, we would like to point out the following: We apologise that the guide did not meet your expectations, we could never have imagined that such an experienced guide, could make such mistakes. -As you can see from TripAdvisor, the above is an isolated incident. Our agency enjoys excellent reviews for its services and was awarded a certificate of excellence during 2018. Nevertheless, we apologise for the incident. -The car was an 8 seater Mono DeLuxe + driver, had it been a 7 seater, the guide would not have been able to board with you. It was available for pick up and drop off at the port of Civitavecchia and for transfer from site to site as specified on the website. For safety reasons, no personal items could be left in the car. -Unfortunately, on combined tours, for reasons of time, lunch is a set menu, a first course, a second course and a side dish, water. We also took care of the drinks you consumed extra, which were not included. The restaurant is a typical Roman eatery and usually no one complains but we will take note of it anyway. - We had had a conversation via whatsapp messages at the time of booking, in which we warned you that the Colosseum skip-the-line entrance tickets had run out and that you could buy them on the day of the tour by standing in line, you agreed. Unfortunately, due to the large influx of visitors that morning, there were no more available, but we still managed to buy tickets for the Forum and Palatine. You write, that some of you needed shade, unfortunately the Roman Forum is outdoors. For the entrance to the Vatican Museums, you were informed that you would enter as a group but with a personal guide inside and you accepted. The one you call 'Broker' is the same colleague of ours who gave you the money back at the restaurant for the extras and she was the one who had the entrance tickets, in fact, that morning we had several groups entering at the same time and she was there to co-ordinate the entries. The tickets were absolutely in order, subject to very strict controls by means of barcode scanners. For this inconvenience, we offered you, at the time of booking, an overview of the most beautiful squares and fountains in Rome by car, even if you then decided to only see the Trevi Fountain because you were too tired. -We will still make a partial refund for these reasons. We hope to have the opportunity, in the future, to prove to you that our tours remain among the most popular with customers in the city of Rome. Carlo

Why this scores 42
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included cost?
+
Prices start at $555 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 42 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does VIP Guided Tour Rome Colosseum, Vatican Museums, lunch included start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
